Time of Eating Matters As Well As What You Eat, Studies Reveal

You maybe weary of the stuff that you eat when you are in a weight loss journey. You count your calorie intake, fruits and vegies are in your list and you are meticulous when it comes to serving sizes. However, a new study reveals that you should also take note of the time you are eating. This study says that eating later in a certain day can slow your progress.

Researchers from Spain posted the results of the study in the International Journal of Obesity. They looked and made examination on 420 individuals who were living in Murcia, Spain; a Mediterranean town. These people were divided evenly between men and women with the average age of 42. The main researchers were more interested in making comparisons with the weight loss progress of these individuals. Moreover, they looked intently on the time these participants consumed their meal. It was about 1, 400 calories. This is quite smaller as compared to the number of calories being consumed by Americans every single day.

In the end, researchers discovered that those who ate their food before 3 o’clock in the afternoon decreased their weight by 22 pounds in average. On the other hand, those who ate past 3pm only had 17 pounds to lose.

Experts were not surprised with this as they have some theories which could explain the results of their study. They actually believe that if a person postpones his meal up until later in a day, it may affect his body’s biological clock which then makes metabolism imbalanced. “When the timing of meals do not match with the sleep-wake cycle well, there’s a disconnection between the different clocks that we have in basically all the cells of our body,” says Frank Scheer, the author of the study.

With this study, other people are encouraged to move their meal schedule if they really want to lose weight. Whatever it may be, proper diet and exercise as well as medical-surgical help are good steps in losing weight. Furthermore, related studies to see if the theories are right and applicable to regular human life.
