Deer Antler Spray Wins WADA Doping Ban Lift, Loses Efficacy Test

Vijay Singh, who admitted he used deer antler velvet for improvement in his body and in his game, was cleared of any wrongdoing by the PGA Tour.

In a study conducted by the University of Otago, 30 individuals tested their muscle soreness by using a muscles soreness rating (MSR) scale. The 30 individuals were placed into three groups, one group using a placebo, one using deer antler extract, and the other deer antler powder. They performed a series of exercises, rating their muscle soreness 24 hours post-exercise.  Across the groups there was a definite pattern of increased muscles soreness 24 hours after exercises were completed.

Where the powder group broke away from the other two groups, was the amount of time it took to return to a normal level.  The deer antler powder individuals showed full recovery from muscle soreness 24 hours earlier than individuals using deer velvet extract and placebos, indicating faster relief from pain caused by tired muscles.
 

Deer antler velvet helps with increased speed 

The need for speed in any athletic competition is a priority of athletes. Strong evidence supports increased speed with deer antler velvet. A study conducted tested the effects of deer antler velvet in athletes running. 50 men aged between 18 and 23 years old completed a timed run of 3,000 meters. The initial time was recorded. In a second run, deer antler velvet was given 30 minutes before the men ran the same distance again. The average time it took to run the distance significantly decreased to complete the run after having taken deer antler velvet.

In a second version of the experiment, deer antler velvet was researched for a period of 12 days. The runs were after a 24-hour period after taken the deer antler velvet. The time to complete the runs was reduced in the majority of runners. Advancement and improvement was seen in both above-average as well as below-average athletes.
