This is a great article on Iodine and its importance for the human body. I found it especially timely with all the fuss about Fukushima and the steady increase in environmental radiation!

“This is simply a short follow-up article to my last blog entitled Fukushima and You. From the response to that article I decided to type up this short and direct blog targeting Iodine and You a bit more. Iodine is becoming more and more of a target supplement due to a couple main facts. The first and foremost goes right along with my article Fukushima and You, so if you have not read that you may want to in order to better understand the extreme concern on a global scale from the ever increasing radiation levels in our environment. The other fact is simply how deficient most people’s diets are in Iodine.

In the 1970’s the FDA decided it was going to remove all iodine additives from foods and replace it with a toxic heavy metal called Bromine. Gee, thanks a lot…. Prior to this order iodine was added to many foods and most heavily in bread products. Today, unless you are eating a high seafood diet that includes seaweeds and high quality salt you are not getting the necessary amounts of iodine for proper thyroid function. Of course since Fukushima most of the oceans kelp and other seaweed supplies have become highly irradiated and unless you are downing a few tablespoons of salt a day you are NOT getting proper amounts of iodine through your diet.

The simple truth is that iodine, under normal conditions is found largely in the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, liver, heart, lungs and the breasts of women.
