Best Foods for Colon Health

The best companion for a health colon is the fiber. Diet with the high fiber content is very friendly to the colon. Less intake of the fiber can aisle the issues like irregular bowel movement, constipation issue. The colon functions for the absorption of water and the nutrients which are remained in the liquid stools from cecum. Consuming junk processed foods can interfere the functioning of the colon. Other than the fiber there are some foods which are beneficial to the colon. Let’s discuss in detail about them but we first initiate from fiber foods.

Fiber Foods:  Soluble or insoluble fibers, they are always good to colon in terms of health. Fiber foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, whole gram grains are essentially taken daily to keep colon healthy. Indeed these are treated to be must to be included in the daily diet. They are useful in eliminating the stools and toxins from the body comfortably by holding them. The fiber helps to form softer stools than can be easily eliminated and doesn’t harm the inner lining of colon. Basically it supports the peristalsis (the wave form of the colon muscles). The soluble fiber is dissolved in the water and is beneficial to the friendly microbial flora that lives in the gut. Besides not only catching the human debris, it also hooks the unwanted harmful microbes like campylobacter for elimination. Foods like flax seeds, apples, citrus, beans, peas, barley, strawberry are good in fiber content. The recommended dosage of the fiber is about 25 – 30 grams per day. To support it adequate water should be taken.

Probiotic Foods:  The probiotic foods and supplements are very friendly to the natural flora present in the intestinal gut. These bacteria are essential in producing the vitamin B12 for the body. Imbalance of these flora can deficit the vitamin in the body. To nourish this type of flora avoiding of the foods which are high in refined carbs and low in fiber is necessary. Yogurt is very ideal that fits to promote these colonies in the intestinal guts.

Water:  Water is essential to maintain the electrolyte balance in the body. Scarcity of the water in the body can lead to decrease of the mucus in the intestinal lining promoting the constipation, formation of harder stools and rectal bleeding. It is always suggested that people should drink adequate water daily to avoid malfunctions in the body.

Thanks for recalling the golden sayings. Yes it is we what we eat and I realized very soon after reading the post. I’m a junkie savvy and always love to have the processed food. Some or the other time I’ve been suffering from the constipation issues and this issue has let me down. I was really unaware of the things and how to control my cravings for unhealthy food. Yes, it is the food which can either spoil sport the life of any person or can build his health. I support your comments in the article. Keep posting.

Thanks Fleur Jotham for sharing insightful healthy information about colon healthy foods. Yeah as per my little research fiber play’s a major role and probably fights against cancer. Most of the specialists suggest consuming fiber to cancer patients. But before consuming the fiber we should check fiber balanced diet according to their age. If we eaten overly would be problem. And colon cancer patients should avoid fatty foods or junk foods its takes longer time digestive and get rid.

I agree with you Junita regarding comments made by you. Fiber has to be included in the diet as per the suggestion and as per the requirement. Excessive intake of fiber can create other issues like soft fiber bowel movement. I ve read about the fiber intake today that a recommended 25-30 grams of fiber should be included in the diet. Fiber is not useful for the cancer patients but the foods like apples that has good percentage of the fiber (pectin) in it can be useful for the cardiac as well as a good and healthy digestive system.
