W.V. Gov. Knew 12 Years Freedom Industries Posed Security Threat (VIDEO)

For twelve years, it’s been known that Freedom Industries Inc., in its different legal forms, posed a threat to West Virginia American Water’s supply and the people of West Virginia, a House Judiciary Committee heard Tuesday. Afterwards, over 300 people gathered in worst of winter conditions in front of the state capitol in Charleston at a candlelight vigil, praying for a change to their fossil fuel-bought leadership, to one that will protect them from being further poisoned.

Federally mandated Source Water Assessment Reports, prepared for the state Bureau of Public Health and posted online, showed that the company responsible for the Charleston-based company responsible for the chemical leak this month, Freedom Industries, was posing a threat to the people and the environment,  Evan Hansen, president of Morgantown-based consulting firm Downstream Strategies, told legislators.

Hansen, like several other independent scientists, has been trying for years to hold government accountable for placing West Virginians in harm’s way of the fossil fuel industry. Up against Big Energy’s big bucks poured into anti-renewable energy politicos’ hands, however, those efforts have resulted in too little action in the interest of the public.

The state’s Bureau of Public Health has known Freedom was a threat to the people, yet the governor-appointed bureau director Dr. Letitia Tierney just recently blamed the poisoning that people are suffering on their not washing their hands and being too stressed. She even went as far as suggesting they seek professional mental health help. 

Now, amid thousands or people being poisoned, with over 2000 people seeking help from the state’s Poison Control Center, including over 100 in the past few days, Hansen’s firm has been offering testing services to homes and buisnesses, he told Deborah Dupré reporting for Before It’s News on Thursday.

“We still don’t even know what chemicals the government is conducting,” Hansen said.

Freedom Industries’ facility is approximately a mile upriver from the main drinking water treatment plant operated by the private company West Virginia American Water.

“Everyone who drinks public water these days should be asking what’s upstream from them,” Hansen said.

“I know one person who drank the water here and it burned her mouth, her throat and burned her stomach,” he said. “You know something’s wrong with water when that happens.”

Yet, with over 2000 West Virginia calls to the states Poison Control Center by people suffering the effects of poisoning, according to Dr. Scharman Thursday, the government maintained its ”safe water” advice.

“I think the governor’s statements about risks related to the water are troubling,” Hansen said. “These are chemicals we don’t know enough about.”

Two chemicals said to have been in the spill are Nalco’s Crude MCHM and Dow’s PHh, both mysteries to the public due to being “proprietary.” Little that is known about these chemicals is concerning independent scientists. They are rushing to identify their secret components on limited budgets.

Their budgets are a minute compared to the Pentagon’s budget, also “testing” West Virginia’s water but in secret.

Companies involved in making, using and distributing these chemicals in West Virgnia to boost people’s addiction to the fossil fuel industry, Freedom Industries, Dow, and Nalco, are in effect saying, “I Can Poison You And You Can’t Know What Poison I’m Using!”
