What Skin Experts Say about Facial Cleanser?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Washing your face feel straightforward right?
Well, most of you just take a splash of water and some soap and then everything would be all right. However there are subtle things you should be doing to get rid of the excess drying, oily skin or even the dreaded breakouts associated with busy modern day life.

But fear not, you have not committed the worst skin care sin. There’s still a way to salvage what is left of your skin and make it healthier. And since it is November, the Healthy Skin Month, we felt it was time to get this simple cleansing practice down with — once and for all.

In order to give you accurate and factual information, we were in consultation with several dermatologists and skin experts.

Jessica Krant
Could you describe your skin type and concerns?

I have what I consider normal skin but suffering from the paranoia of having the healthiest skin possible.

What’s your skincare routine?
I use a cleanser twice a day, toner, serum, eye cream, and moisturizer all by Solvaderm. In the morning I also use a body wash and body lotion. Every now and then, I add in a firming mask for my healthy paranoia

What’s your top skincare tip?
Always maintain a balance between exfoliating and hydrating masks. More of Yin and Yang think: don’t take without giving back.

One thing about skin you wish you knew sooner?
I should have started using sun screen earlier. You can see the extra sun damage and ageing.

What’s your best skin bargain?
This will be Dermpura. For less than $30 I get my skin well protected and cleansed using this gentle but effective product. This is the reason I am team Solvaderm all the way.

What’s the most common skin mistake?
I guess this will be Over-exfoliating. While I was doing it unknowingly since I didn’t know that when the skin is healthy, it slows down the cell mortality rate, so several exfoliations in a week are not necessary – and in fact they can be damaging. Anyone with dry skin should barely exfoliate – they need nourishment, not remove. If you are oilier you can exfoliate a little more regularly.

Could you describe your skin type and concerns?

You can see it yourself. My skin type is dry. I have to apply a hydrating serum as well as a moisturizer; my skin can’t get enough hydration by itself! My main concern at this moment is the dullness and I’m experiencing a few breakouts around my chin every now and then.

What’s your skincare routine?
In the morning, I cleanse with Dermpura, apply a vitamin C serum and a moisturizing cream. In the evening, I do a double cleanse to remove the makeup; at night I use a natural oil cleanser which I am still experimenting with to remove the mineral make up as well as have the soft velvety feeling of the oil. After this, I spot on a hydrating facial mist, apply a treatment serum with vitamin A, a hydrating night cream and, lastly, an eye cream. Additionally, I exfoliate twice a week, mask my skin at least once a week, and have a facial every 4-6 weeks. Every three months, I correct my skin regimen depending on my lifestyle and present skin condition.

What’s your top skincare tip?
Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen; my preferred option is a zinc-based one.

What’s the biggest skincare myth?
Soap and water is overly exaggerated. I insist on using the correct cleanser for your present skin condition if you want to make a huge difference to your skin for years to come.

What’s your biggest skin splurge?
I would do anything for a relaxing facial with my facialist and being pampered all day from head to toe!

Any final words of skin wisdom?
Don’t complicate your skin routine; keep it simple and learn from your mistakes
