% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Stress and worrying is part of our everyday lives. No matter what kind of situation you are in, chances are there will be objectives that stresses you out and circumstances that makes you worry about something. While this is part of human life, some people tend to worry too much about everything – even the things they do not have control over in life. A study by Liberty Mutual Insurance found that an average of thirty-eight percent of people have something they worry about each and every day.

WebMD reports that worrying too much holds significant risks to both your mental and physical health. This could lead to conditions which could potentially affect your performance at work, as well as affect the quality of your sleep, weaken your relationship and even affect some of your regular lifestyle habits. They also report that people who tend to worry too much about everything are more prone on introducing harmful choices into their lifestyle habits. This usually includes smoking cigarettes, eating too much or turning to drugs and alcohol to seek relief from their problems. HelpGuide.org states that too much stress can lead to health-related problems such as pain, depression, weight gain and loss, digestive problems, heart problems, skin conditions, auto immune problems and problems with your sleep patterns.

The first step to overcoming your anxiety disorder is identifying the signs. Once you have identified several signs that tells you worry too much, additional action can be taken in order to reduce your anxiety and ultimately accept things as they are. This will also assist with leading a healthier, stress-free lifestyle.

Sign #1: Threats are everywhere
When you are stressed out and worry too much, you tend to see many elements in your life as a threat. This can include loved ones, your workplace and almost anything else. This is also one of the most vital signs that you need to take a deep breath and consider the actual severity of the situation you are in.
People also tend to think of future events such as meeting up with a friend or having to go to the shops as a threat. Seeing things as a threat doesn’t necessarily mean you see things as life-threatening, but simply as an obstacle in your life. This could even make an activity such as going out with a couple of friends for coffee seem like tedious task.

Sign #2: You always feel upset
Statistic Brain published stress-related statistics which reports around 73% of American citizens experience several psychological symptoms due to stress. Out of the people who reported to experience psychological symptoms, 50% experienced anger and irritability and 35% reported they feel as if they could cry during waking hours.

Worrying too much about elements in your life can cause you to always feel upset, angry and irritable. When you feel like crying or have a general feeling of being upset all the time, it could mean that you worry too much. This could also lead to more serious factors such as alienating yourself from friends, as 26% of the effected participants in the study reported.

Sign #3: Lack of sleep
Stress can lead to a lack of sleep. If you are lying awake at night and fighting to get to sleep, it might be a vital sign that you are worrying too much. People are prone to think about the day and everything they are worrying about as soon as they climb into bed. With the silence of the night and nothing to keep your mind from wondering, you start to think about everything you worry about and soon find yourself unable to fall asleep.

The statistics reported by Statistic Brain states that 48% of American citizens claimed to have problems sleeping as a result of stress in their lives.

Sign #4: High blood pressure
Worrying about everything tends to have a significant impact on the physical health of your body. Symptoms such as headaches, ulcers and stomachaches are some of the most common side-effects experienced by individuals who has a lot of stress. Another common health-related problem that provides evidence to the fact that you worry too much is a very high blood pressure rate.

Mayo Clinic reports that even though stress itself doesn’t cause long-term high blood pressure, the behavioral effects of stress such as making the ability to sleep challenging and causing patients to eat more than usual could cause high blood pressure. When these symptoms and effects are active within your daily lifestyle over a longer period of time, it could result in the development of long-term high blood pressure conditions.

Sign #5: Unconscious muscle tension
Living with stress and worries for a long period of time could lead to symptoms such as muscle tension. This includes anything from flexing various body muscles to constantly clenching your teeth and jaw. While these are common amongst people living with a large amount of stress, it tends to become unnoticeable for the patient themselves and eventually turns into an unconscious action.

Stress statistics presented by Statistic Brain reveals that around 30% of people suffering from stress has muscle tension problems. The figures also show that 17% of the individuals also experienced teeth grinding and jaw clenching.

Sign #6: Everything has to be perfect
While obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is usually linked to anxiety disorders, lighter forms of the condition can be experienced when you worry too much. The feeling that everything needs to be perfect can cause several problems in your life, including making you turn up late for meetings because you couldn’t decide on the perfect outfit or you couldn’t get your makeup to look absolutely perfect.

OCD UK reports that around 1.2% of the population in the United Kingdom experience signs of OCD. It is also reported that around 50% of the people diagnosed with OCD experience the symptoms on a severe level.

Sign #7: A decrease in productivity
An obvious sign that you worry too much can often be seen in a decrease in productivity. When you stress about something that is out of your own control, you tend to think about the specific matter constantly. This effects your performance at work, at school and even around the house.

Around 45% of individuals who suffer from stress also claims to have a lack of energy. Around 48% of the effected patients also reports that stress has a negative impact on both their life at work and at home. It is a common sign that you have too many worries when you notice a lack of productivity in any type of environment.

Conclusion
Worrying might be a part of our everyday lives, but worrying too much about things that is out of your own control can have several negative impacts on your life. It is important to take a step back as soon as you realize you are displaying any of these signs. Taking a deep breath and considering the fact that you should not stress about things you cannot control is the first step to overcoming your problem. From there on, you can introduce some fun and relaxing activities into your lifestyle to relieve some of the worries that effects on you.
