Toronto Cosmetic Clinic Finds Growing Market with Millennials

Thanks to young celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Ariel Winter, an increasing number of Millennials are now opting for plastic surgery. According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), in 2015 64 percent of members reported an increase in cosmetic surgery or injectable treatments in patients younger than 30.

Plastic surgeons also reported many of their younger patients were heavily inspired and influenced by the appearance of celebrities they admire, with 82 percent of surgeons saying that celebrities were a major factor in patients’ decisions to have plastic surgery.

“It’s the age of the ‘selfie’ and celebrities are influencing greater acceptance for cosmetic procedures at any age,” says Dr. Edwin Williams, president of the AAFPRS. “It’s important for patients of all ages to keep safety in mind when choosing a cosmetic procedure and a provider, or the procedure they hope will make them look and feel better could end up causing harm.”,23737

The popularity of social media sites, like Instagram and Snapchat, have also been attributed to the increase in millennial cosmetic surgery.  After all, in the social media frenzy world, perfectly snapped photos are the ultimate currency. Some Millennials also fear a less-than-young appearance could hinder their ability to land that next great job or promotion.

In Canada, there has also been an increase in the number of people 35 and younger seeking cosmetic surgeons. The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons doesn’t release statistics, but doctors and clinic owners across the country are reporting a marked increase in young patients.

“To my surprise, the predominant age group I’ve seen for procedures over the last two years is between 28 and 33,” said Katie Rietta, owner of Skin Deep Phototherapy. “Ten years ago, I mostly treated teens for acne or those over 50.”

In terms of procedures, on both sides of the border, American and Canadian, young adults are choosing to be proactive when it comes to aging. As a result, Millennials are choosing injectables and preventative treatments to combat the signs of aging and achieve the desired plump lip look.

“There’s definitely an influx of young patients seeking cosmetic procedures,” notes Dr. William McGillivray, owner and aesthetic physician at Project Skin Vancouver. “The youngest patient I’ve performed Botox on was 20.”

As for surgical procedures, breast augmentation and butt lifts are among the most popular with the younger demographic who want to enhance their natural curves.

In Toronto, Toronto Cosmetic Clinic (TCC : has also seen an increase in the number of appointments and consultations booked by Millennials. Unlike in years past, these tech savvy consumers arrive at the office having done hours of research, comparison and vetting.

“A lot of the patients we see now come in especially looking for Dr. Bendago or a specific procedure they have heard about,” said a representative at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic. “Word of mouth is huge with this demographic and more valuable than traditional marketing and advertising.”

Dr. (Mansour) Bendago is highly sought after, in part because he is known as the Butt Lift King and has spent the last 20 plus years perfecting his surgical skills when it comes to the Brazilian But Lift procedure.

The good thing is that Millennials aren’t just looking for bargain basement pricing when it comes to cosmetic or plastic surgery – they are seeking out professionals who are experienced and operate out of trustworthy cosmetic clinics. That’s important, especially now that the nature of cosmetic surgery seems to be shifting from repair and restoration to prevention and maintenance.
