We all have stress in our lives. Deadlines, money, bills, family and so on. As long as you have a pulse, stress is just a daily life occurrence. And believe me when I say it, stress is not always a bad thing. The way I look at it is that it means you are living a life. You earn money so you have a job. You have bills so that means you live your life. And your family and friends call you so that means people care about you. So, what are the stresses that are good for you? There are different ways to manage stress and that is how good stress comes about. This is how I look at it. I have a bill to pay. It is a bill for a vacation I have coming up. I need to pay for the plane ticket which is about $700. I need to make the budget to pay for these plane tickets that I put on my credit card. This is a good stress. You know there is a positive at the end of the road – a vacation. It is worth stressing over a vacation because you know that you will not need to stress during it. It is paid for and you saved the money to enjoy it. Good stress. You are doing it because you want to reward yourself for working hard. Good job.
Another kind of good stress is a student loan pay back. I know it sounds odd, but this is the best kind of loan you can have. It shows you went the extra mile to better yourself and they look good for your credit. They are usually a super low payment each month, and you are even able to receive loan forgiveness if you work for non-profit, as a teacher or police officer or fireman. Pay a small amount now, and then the rest can be forgiven. That is what I say to myself whenever I see my student loan. Plus, if you do not make enough money or have a full-time job you are not responsible to pay for it. They do not want you to file for bankruptcy because you cannot afford your student loan. Good stress.
Bills are a good stress to have. I once had a colleague who said you should be happy you have bills because that means you are living life and it is so true. Since I do not have many friends in my area, my bills are a lot lower than when I lived with friends. No more going to the pub, no more going on day trips, no more having fun. It would become quite stressful figuring out what money went where, but I knew that it was great because my bills were being paid and I was living a life. I will always look at my credit card statement and think that it is my life lifeline. It shows where I have been or where I am going and that is exciting. It is also stressful when you need to pay it off.
Manic depression can be difficult to deal with. I never had the disease, but I know what it is like to have everything you wanted taken away from you and to feel all alone. This is the worst stress imaginable, but you have to spin it into a good stress in order to get out of your depression. I know easier said than done. To be honest I still have episodes where I am not 100% myself because I do not have friends around, but I then reach out to one and I know they are always there for me no matter the time. I had a friend who said look at the moon tonight. It is the same moon as where I am and I will be looking at it with you even though we are not together. We have the moon. Just little things like that can turn bad stress into good stress. We always have the moon.
My final stress that is good for you is the friends and family in your life. They are there because they care about you and you care about them. One of my friends was sick the other week and I almost lost her due to something in her flat. This stressed me out because we do not live close to one another and I was not able to visit her. The good part was that she told me what happened. It made me feel as though our friendship went to another level after that. She trusted me to know about the carbon monoxide poisoning in her apartment that almost killed her and her dog. I just needed to turn it around to good stress rather than looking at it as bad stress.
So, there you have it. Stress comes in different shapes and forms. It can be money, loans, bills, credit card and friends and family. It just depends on how you choose to deal with it that matters. Try to spin bad into good and then you will feel better about your stress. I know, easier said than done, but I think you can do it. After all, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
