(Before It's News)

A recent study has shown that the popular Chinese meditation discipline Falun Gong is very effective at improving the survival rate of cancer patients.

A paper on the study was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The 152 patients studied were terminal cancer patients, yet most of them reported complete symptom recovery after practicing Falun Gong, according to the paper.

Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) includes five gentle exercises, including a sitting meditation. It also requires improving one’s character by following the principles of truthfulness, kindness, and tolerance. It has been practiced widely in China since 1992.

According to the report, the 152 patients who were eligible for the study had been expected to survive about 5.1 months. However, their actual survival rate was about 56 months and counting, as 149 of them were still alive as of the report date. Among the patients, 147 reported that they had fully recovered.

The study took other factors into account and concluded that the duration of Falun Gong practice was the dominating predictive factor behind the patients’ recovery.

Although Falun Gong is practiced by tens of millions of people in China, little clinical research has been done on its healing effects, possibly because the Chinese communist regime oppresses Falun Gong along with many other spiritual and ethnic groups. Much of what we know about Falun Gong’s health benefits is spread through word of mouth.

In the above-mentioned study, however, the patients’ medical information was verifiable. All of the reports were reviewed by two physicians, according to the paper.

Other research on Falun Gong has been compiled in a book called “The Mindful Practice of Falun Gong: Meditation for Health, Wellness, and Beyond,” by Dr. Margaret Trey. A discussion of this book and Falun Gong’s health benefits can be found here.
