Obama Immigration Plan Identical To 2007 Plan Rejected By Americans

Barack Obama leaked his immigration amnesty plan to news sources in order to push his agenda.  He expects to present amnesty to over 12 to 20 million illegal aliens now working and living in America.  The costs will exceed $3 trillion according to the Heritage Foundation. www.HeritageFoundation.com

Legalized immigrants will enjoy access to Social Security benefits, medical, jobs, schooling, scholarships, assisted housing and the $80 billion annual food stamp program.

Leaked Immigration Plan Sounds Familiar

“Over the weekend, the Obama administration strategically leaked its immigration plan to USA Today,” said Stein.  “This “leak” came just days after the president met with Senate Democrats at the White House to discuss the developing Gang of Eight legislation.

“The Obama proposal calls for immediate legal status for the nearly 12 million illegal aliens currently in the country, allowing them to compete for jobs and receive some state and local benefits. After eight years on a new “lawful prospective immigrant visa,” amnestied illegal aliens could apply for a green card and, like all green card holders, citizenship thereafter.

“Republicans on both sides of the amnesty debate expressed disappointment with the proposal and the alleged leak. Gang of Eight members Sens. McCain (R-Ariz.) and Rubio (R-Fla.) criticized the plan despite the easily recognizable similarities with the amnesty principles they’ve supported in the Senate. Amnesty opponent Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) pointed this out on Monday, calling the Obama plan “little different in its substance from the Gang of 8 plan, which is also unlikely to withstand scrutiny.”

“Obama’s plan includes a few bones on enforcement – like phased in nationwide use of E-Verify – however, these only come after near automatic legal status for 12 million illegal aliens. And, if the roll out of E-Verify goes anything like REAL ID, we can expect endless delays at the expense of the American people. Even more importantly, the promises of future enforcement are only as good as the president’s commitment to carry through on them, which, under this administration, means not at all.”

New Poll: Voters Don’t Want Amnesty; They Want Enforcement 

“In 2007, the bipartisan effort to enact amnesty failed because American voters opposed it overwhelmingly,” said Stein. “The strategy for overcoming that inconvenient truth is to convince those same voters that the tide of public opinion has turned and that resistance is pointless. To that end, we have seen poll after poll purporting to demonstrate that Americans now favor amnesty for illegal aliens.

“However, upon closer scrutiny, many Americans do not think deporting 12 million people is a viable plan for dealing with illegal immigration. The polls that have been trumpeted as signaling a sea change in public opinion, however, tend to limit the enforcement options to mass deportation. Consequently, when given the choice between “a pathway to citizenship” and mass deportation, the former is the preferred option.”

A new poll commissioned by FAIR offered 1,000 likely voters a third option: sensible enforcement of laws against illegal aliens working or accessing most benefits and services in order to discourage them from remaining. Guess what? When a viable enforcement alternative is on the menu, voters tend to choose enforcement over amnesty.

“The Pulse Opinion Research poll, conducted in early February, found that a combined 52 percent of likely voters favored policies that discourage illegal aliens from remaining here, or deportation, compared with just 36 percent who favored legalization,” said Stein.  “The poll also found that Americans have little confidence that another amnesty would be followed by any sort of meaningful immigration enforcement. Only 26 percent of voters think immigration laws would be enforced effectively after an amnesty compared with 69 percent who had little or no confidence that enforcement promises would be kept. Likewise, by 67 percent to 29 percent margin, voters were skeptical about the government’s ability to prevent massive fraud during an amnesty, or do effective background checks on applicants.

“In other words, voters do not support mass amnesty and the more they consider the details of such a plan the less they like it.”

Other key findings of the poll include:

• By a 53% to 41% margin, voters believe our nation’s borders are not secure.
• By a 74% to 21% margin, voters believe the government is not doing an effective job preventing illegal aliens from living and working in the U.S.
• By a 53% to 26% margin, voters believe that illegal immigration is harmful to American workers.
• By a 66% to 11% margin, voters believe that illegal immigration imposes a burden on American taxpayers.

If this plan becomes law, American citizens will be pushed out of more jobs, suffer more displacement and our working poor will find themselves standing in unemployment lines or welfare lines with no end in sight.
