During the “Creativity and innovation state contest: ExpoCiencias Tamaulipas 2016″,  organized by the Secretary of State Education, an 11 year old boy, named Juan David Hernandez Rojas, presented a project named “Security backpack”, which was inspired on the violence that Reynosa currently suffers.

The kid assured that his creation could help his classmates and other kids to survive a firefight or prevent them from becoming victims of a crime, because “there is a lot of criminal activity” in his city, said the sixth grade student of the Lazaro Cardenas del Rio Elementary School.

Hernandez Rojas explained that his project is known as “Security backpack, and that the backpack makes the difference between life and death, or preventing abductions… the problem is that nowadays unfortunately, there is a lot of firefights in my city and there is a lot of robbery, kidnappings, firefights and armed thefts. And because of this problems I created the backpack to help us remain safe”, indicated the child.

The backpack has a metallic plate that serves as protection against bullets, its also weatherproof, it has a GPS system connected to the telephones of our parents, and LED flashlight and an alarm that can be activated in case of being kidnapped.

“The backpack comes with a bulletproof vest. In a common situation, such as a firefight, it will be useful in order to protect ourselves”, said the minor. “Put the backpack like this: get on the ground just like Civil Protection advises, but this time grab the backpack and cover your head and back, this will prevent that a lost bullet can hit you”, the student explained during his presentation of his science project.

“In case of being kidnapped, it has an alarm that can be activated in order for people to notice the situation and hopefully provide help”, stated the student.

Mayra Iveth Morin Arevalo, a Professor of Juan David, explained to the local media that the cost of producing the backpack its of approximately 800 pesos, and that the most expensive part was the bulletproof metals.

“One time a violent situation happened in the school, and the kids had to get on the ground, from there Juan David, who is one of the best students had the idea to create the backpack. His idea its really good because it will save the life of a lot of kids” explained the professor of the child.

In the same contest, another student named, Jesus Martinez Baldaza, presented a prototype of a cell phone that emits an electrical discharge that hurts however tries to steal the cell phone.
