An agent of the Frontier Patrol died and another was injured after being attacked this morning in the town of Van Horn, no less than 200 kilometres from the frontier regions of El Paso – Texas, Ciudad Juarez – Chihuahua.

“An agent of the Frontier Patrol of the United States died resulting from wound suffered during an patrol in the Big Bend sector, where his colleague was wounded”, said the spokesman of the Federal Corporation, Douglas T Mosier.

He explained that the agent Rogelio Martinez, 36 years old, and his colleague, patrolled close to the interstate highway 10, in the area of Van Horn station.

The colleague of agent Martinez was wounded and needed medical attention, and was transferred to a local hospital.

Agents of the Border Patrol from the Big Bend sector and the Department of the Sheriff of the County of Culberson were securing the crime scene. Border Patrol Special Operations Group and air and maritime CBP operations agents are looking for suspects or potential witnesses in the area.

Staff of the Culberson County Sheriffs Office, the FBI, the Office of the Inspector General and the Office of Professional Responsibility of the CBP are investigating the facts.

The event provoked the reaction of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who condemned the deaths of the serviceman in his twitter account.

“A border patrol agent killed on the Southern border, another seriously wounded. We will seek and bring those responsible to justice. We will build the wall”, said Trump in reference to his electoral  promise to construct a barrier on the border with Mexico.

Senator Ted Cruz, condemned the attack that was perpetrated against the two Federal Agents. ” Our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of Border Patrol agent Rogelio Martinez, who was killed in the line of duty. We are also praying for the full recovery of his colleague, who was also attacked.”

“This is a clear reminder of the constant threat posed for the safety of our communities and policymakers who defend them. We are grateful for the courage and sacrifice of our officers who have dedicated their lives to keep us safe: I remain fully committed to working with the Border Patrol to provide them with all the resources they need to safeguard our nation”.

Last October 25th, another Border Patrol agent was attacked with firearms while travelling along Interstate highway 10 at the height of Eastlake Street in El Paso. It was established that his attackers followed him since he left home at 6am in the morning.
