For the 38 countries which are participating in the US Waiver Program, the Trump Administration brought about new requirements which included the usage of counterterrorism data for screening the travelers. President Trump has thought of tightening the rules for all those who have sought to live or visit in the United States in different ways, saying that such restrictions are vital for different security purposes. The changes will be applicable to all the countries within the program.

One change among that is that they would require utilizing US details to screen the travelers who cross the borders from third countries. As per one administrative official, there are already many countries in the program that do so. Countries whose citizens stay back for a longer time period as was authorized will need to conduct different awareness campaigns on the results of overstays. One of the penalties which already exist is that the people who overstay during a visit to the US, they won’t be allowed to travel without a visa for USA ever in the future.

What’s the threshold for the rate of overstay?

The threshold for the rate of overstay which triggered the campaign of public information is 2%, as per what the officials reported. During the fiscal year 2016, among the VWP countries like Hungary, Greece, San Marino and Portugal, the overstay rates were higher than 2%, as per the Department of Homeland Security. The overall rate of overstay for such VWP countries is presently less than 0.68% and this is much lower than the non-VWP countries excluding Mexico and Canada.

Are there any security risks of overstaying?

The members of Congress have showed their extreme concern regarding the security issues of overstaying. As per a 2017 report produced in the month of May by the DHS inspector general, it was found that the department lacked a detailed and extensive system to gather details on departing visitors.

For all those who are ready with their official ESTA, be prepared to face some new rules before entering the US. The United States will also begin by assessing the VWP countries against all such insider threats at airports, particularly those with direct flights to the United States, as per what officials say. The ultimate goal behind all such changes is to ensure that the employees of the airport or the aviation workers never corrupt themselves to an extent where they pose a threat to the airplane, particularly those which are America-bound.

Hence, if you’ve got your American visa and you’re all set to travel to this wonderful nation, you have to be first aware of what the President, Mr. Donald Trump is planning for the US immigrants and the visitors. Once you take note of the facts, you can easily be able to take the required actions for traveling in the most convenient manner. Stay aware of all the news updates from Capitol Hill and work accordingly during your visit to the US.
