TSA Defends Frisking 95-Year-Old
Much controversy has taken place relating to security procedures in American airports. The latest incident involved a very elderly lady.
CNN reported that on Sunday, June 26, a 95-year-old cancer stricken woman from Florida was patted down and forced to remove her diaper while going through security at the airport.
“My mother is very ill, she has a form of leukemia,” said daughter Jean Weber according to CNN. “She had a blood transfusion the week before, just to bolster up her strength for this travel.”
J. Kawika Riley, a spokesman for TSA, said in a telephone interview, “While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner. We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally, according to proper procedure and did not require this passenger to remove an adult diaper. In no instance would our officers ask a passenger to remove an adult diaper. Various options to proceed through the checkpoint were presented to the passenger and her daughter during private screening. Out of respect for passenger privacy, we will not disclose further details about the screening of this passenger except to assure that all protocols were followed.”
