Lotus Announces GT4-based Evora for Grand Am GX Class

Lotus Cars has built a Grand Am Rolex Series version of its 440-bhp Evora GTC specifically to race in the new GX class which will start in 2013. The GTC is itself an outgrowth of the successful Evora GT4 Enduro.

To convert the car to Grand Am Rolex specifications, Lotus had to add a thicker heavier roll cage. Some of the weight is offset by the use of carbon fiber doors, roof, and engine cover, plus Plexiglass instead of polycarbonate windows. The traction control and ABS systems have also been removed as per Rolex rules.

The GX version weighs 2535 lbs, which propelled by its 450-bhp 4-liter V6 through a six-speed sequential paddle-shifted gearbox, should offer plenty of performance.

Texas-based McMahon Raceworks with Condor Racing has already ordered one car, which it will campaign it in the Rolex GT class for the remainder of 2012. Team (and company) owner David McMahon will handle most of the driving chores.

The new car, which will be built to order, costs $335,000.
