Photo Gallery: July 20 Events Around The World
On July 20, 1999, the then-head of the CCP Jiang Zemin launched a campaign to, in his words, “eradicate Falun Gong.” Each year since then, Falun Gong practitioners around the world have staged solemn events on July 20 to protest the persecution of Falun Gong and to memorialize the persecution’s victims.
The spiritual practice of Falun Gong was first publicly taught in 1992 in China by Mr. Li Hongzhi. It spread very rapidly in China and had gained 100 million adherents by 1999. Falun Gong also began spreading to countries outside China, and is now practiced in over 70 countries.
