More than 40 international bowlers from 12 of the world’s strongest bowling nations are arriving to participate in the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic, which starts this weekend.

Joining the elite local Hong Kong players are internationals from Australia, China, England, India, Ireland, Macau, New Zealand, Philippines, Scotland, Singapore and Wales.

For the first time in the history of bowling in Hong Kong, every final match in the annual event will be broadcast live on the pay TV channel Now.

The Singles is a knockout competition that will be played at the Kowloon Bowling Green Club, Club de Recreio and United Services Recreation Club on the coming Saturday and Sunday, Nov 3 and 4, with the finals being held at the Kowloon Bowling Green Club on the Sunday afternoon.

The Pairs is a 7-day competition. Twenty-four teams of each gender will be divided into two groups to play out a round-robin competition. The top team from each group will enter the Semi-finals directly, while the second and third placed teams from each group will meet in a play-off to fight for places in the Semi-finals. The round-robin will be played at Craigengower Cricket Club, Hong Kong Football Club and Indian Recreation Club, while the Final will be played at CCC on Nov 11.

Golden Stag

The inaugural Golden Stag Triples organised by Island Lawn Bowls Club is an event that will be held over two weekends. Open to the beginner, novice and experienced player from Hong Kong – anyone can register to compete. In an unfortunate schedule clash with the Classic, it will be held at Ap Lei Chau Sports Complex on Nov 4 and 11.

Claudius Lam is an Officer with the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association.
