Mexican Government Warns U.S.: Drug Cartel Might Be Upset Over Loss of Weed Income

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Should the U.S. s start cultivating a legal marijuana industry, “This will not be a super-lucrative business proposition for a criminal enterprise… this will not be a cash cow.” — Alejandro Hope – analyst at the Mexican Competitiveness Institute.

As the potential full-scale legalization effort for the use of recreational marijuana in the U.S. is now two states deep, and the great states of Colorado and Washington voiced their opposition to marijuana prohibition. Mexico is feeling backed into a corner, and being forced to “reevaluate its costly battle to make a dent in the large quantity of  marijuana smuggling that currently makes its way across the border,” noted Luis Videgaray the primary  go to guy for Mexico’s transition team for their new president-elect Enrique Pena Nieto’s.

“Obviously we can’t handle a product that is illegal in Mexico; why we should try and stop its transfer to the United States? When in the U.S., at least in Colorado and Washington, it has a different status,” Videgaray went on to reflect. “I believe this compels us to re-think the relationship, particularly in regards to security … For us this is an unfortunate and unforeseen element.” source

Mr. Videgaray just barely pulled up short of making a full-scale threat, of outright walking away from their Mexican enforcement efforts, keeping Mexican grown pot from crossing the border and into United States market (yuck). Unfortunately for both sides – these ill-timed comments came less than a month before President-elect Pena Nieto is to make his long anticipated journey to the White House. Just days before taking office, Mexico’s President-elect appeared to  like the new political position they find themselves in, as they are now the ones applying pressure on the Obama administration to strictly enforce their federal law, which continues to prohibit the recreational use of pot.

“These important modifications change somewhat the rules of the game in the relationship with the United States,” Videgaray noted. “I think that we have to carry out a review of our joint policies in regards to drug trafficking and security in general.”

Meanwhile back at the ranch, president Obama and his team have made precious few comments as to what their strategy may be when it comes to the sticky issue of pot legalization in Colorado and Washington. Despite Videgaray’s aggressive remarks the White House offered no response.

Though it would be hard to tell, the current Mexican administration has done all it can to voice their opposition to the many pro-marijuana measures that now exist within the United States. It was not so long ago that President Felipe Calderon rallied against California’s attempt to legalize marijuana with CA Prop 19. As of now Mexico’s current president has yet to offer an opinion on the historical Pro marijuana votes of just a few short days ago.

Do you suppose they hate us for “our freedoms”?

    • BeastLee

lol i do love that line “They hate us because we are free” (it has nothing to do with the CIA utterly raping their country)

i dont really understand what Mexico’s president is getting at…

Of course they are against legalizing cannabis, they are on the payroll (or death role) of the cartels that run the operation. It’s all about money, if it is legalized then profits will sink, they don’t want that.

I think this is funny as all-get-out! I’ve been laughing so hard, I can’t take a decent hit from my bong! (though, I will keep ‘trying’!)
The worst part about his “threat”, is that they will start to flood our land with even more of their crappy shwag weed… yuck! (the spray it with paraquat, btw!)
And, I would like to add, that yes they do want to keep it illegal, so they can keep the prices up and profits flowing. But there’s more to it than that…
They also know that when we smoke weed (the good kind, not the shwag), their frequency controls that they use to manipulate minds, are totally ineffective!
Cannabis, softens the ego, which is why you don’t hear too much about people fighting or getting violent in other ways, after smoking a bowl of some nice Northern Lights or Wooly Mammoth, or any of the other high quality smoke out there…

Now… If we can only get the Canadians to make the same threat! LMFAO!

I will be moving to Washington state, very soonly!

its his money that’s what he’s getting at. If you legalize it here, we won’t need to go there. Then Mexico President loses profits. I’m sorry but Mexico(the country itself) is dirty, shady, and everyone knows even their prominent people are drug lords. It is what it is.

Legal weed cuts into his profits.

Let me get this out of the way. I am not an activist for legalizing pot, but I do personally think it should be up to the individual, and not the government, to whether a person wants to get high from a basically harmless plant, instead of ruining someone’s life over something that is far better for you than alcohol or Tylenol.

You NEVER hear of anyone beating their wife after using pot. Now alcohol is another story. I’ve seen first hand what alcohol can to do a body and the effects on the family.

Personally I think they should decriminalize it across the country on a federal level. You’ve already heard all the arguments, but what it comes down to is a few rich people spreading lie and wanting to continue to get richer off of jailing citizens (private prison industry) and maintaining their monopolies in energy, food, paper, fiber goods (clothes etc), medicine, and alcohol consumption. There are too many benefits to the use of hemp in many areas of manufacturing and medicine, and the plant is cheaper to produce and will grow anywhere. All of these things are outside the scope of consumption for personal entertainment. Basically the ones holding the reins to this country are protecting their own monopolies by keeping it a banned substance for no other reason that to maintain more control over our lives.

Any other outcome would represent a massive blow to their control and finances, and ultimately the populace. We all know they will not hand over the reins by choice.
