Volos: Arson attack at Bank of Cyprus with scent of Golden Dawn
Greek police arrested three young men in Volos for the arson attack at a Bank of Cyprus branch in Volos. The attack took place with molotov cocktails in the dawn of Thursday. The ATM was destroyed. The men had managed to break a glass window and throw molotov cocktails inside the bank. Due to immediate intervention of local fire brigades the total destruction of the bank due to fire was averted.
The three men, aged 17, 21 and 23 years old were arrested some time later while they were escaping on a moped and a motorcycle. During police interrogation the three admitted their actions.
During research in their homes, police found paraphernalia of extreme-right Golden Dawn: a t-shirt and a scarf of local Golden Dawn organization, as well as some pictures of Hitler and some guns imitations, hoods, wooden bats, iron fists and other items.
According to police, the parents of the 17-year-old tried to hide two handguns and a rifle. They were arrested too for illegal gun possession.
Police supplied the media with pictures showing the seized material.
Prompt was the angry answer by Golden Dawn that slammed the police for “miserable staging”. The party said in a statement that ”GD had no relationship with the three arrested in Volos” and that the t-shirt and the scarf are something that “anyone can buy at any open market.”
