Iranian General dies in Israeli Prison - Suspicions of a Mossad hit abound
A source says retired Iranian general Ali-Reza Asgari may have been killed by Mossad in an Israeli prison.

Reports have come out that the unidentified prisoner who died at the Ayalon Prison in Israel last week, reported as a suicide, was the retired Iranian General, Ali-Reza Asgari, otherwise known as ‘Prisoner X’ in official Israeli reports. General Asgari was a former Deputy Defence Minister in the Iranian government under President Mohammad Khatami before his disappearance under mysterious circumstances in 2007. It was believed at the time that he either defected to, or was kidnapped by, Western Intelligence interests, namely, Mossad.
News of his demise filtered out of Israel yesterday (28 December) through unofficial sources, and was picked up by both Press TV (the Iranian news agency) and the Eurasia Review website. An article by Ynet News, which was later mysteriously pulled from their web site, reports that the ‘suicide’ happened two weeks previously, around 14 December.
At first the identity of the deceased was unknown, but an admission purporting to be from Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has confirmed the deceased’s identity as being that of General Ali-Reza Asgari.
The circumstances of his death, as well as his disappearance, are surrounded in mystery. The likelihood of it being an ordinary suicide is low, and foul play is suspected. The above sources believe that he was assassinated in prison by Mossad once his use as an unwilling intelligence source had been exhausted. Mossad is known for conducting covert operations within Iran, and the recent assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists are suspected to be their handiwork.
Mossad has also been known to conduct covert operations within Turkey, from where General Ali-Reza Asgari disappeared. The kidnapping of key Iranian personnel is not beyond their remit.
The first official comment to come out of Iran concerning the general’s mysterious demise came from the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani yesterday:
“The Israeli regime’s abduction of Asgari with the help of the United States and the Israeli regime’s recent claims is a clear and potent example of state terrorism.”
The Deputy Foreign Minister went on to add that:
“Israel has conducted similar criminal acts in the past, namely the kidnapping of four iranian diplomats in Lebanon, who were later moved to prisons in the occupied territories Three decades after their abduction, Tel Aviv still refuses to offer information on their fate.”
Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani also urged the international community to probe the case of the four missing Iranian diplomats, and he held Israel responsible for their safety.
