Iran Builds New Unmanned Aircraft

Iranian specialists have built a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV, for its acronym in English), capable of bombing, confirmed the commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili. According to the senior military official, the new drone, dubbed Hazem, is a long-range aircraft that can be used in air defense operations.
Esmaili pointed out that the drone has the ability to participate in identification operations, and can be used as a cargo plane if necessary.
The Iranian commander added that Hazem is not designed to carry missiles, but “we can assemble explosives on it.”
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and has achieved self-sufficiency in the production of military equipment and defense systems.
The Islamic Republic of Iran announced in August 2010 its first domestically manufactured long-range drone, named Karrar.
Karrar can transport a military payload of rockets that allow bombing missions to demolish ground targets and flying long distances at a very high speed, in addition to the ability to collect data.
In September 2012, they announced another UAV, called the Shahed 129, which can carry out combat and identification missions, with a capacity of 24 hours of nonstop flight.
The political and military authorities in Iran have said, repeatedly, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, especially its neighbors, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
