Iran, others behind biggest cyber-attack against US

White House officials say they are still trying to learn the scope of the cyber intrusion that exposed financial information about millions of current and former federal employees, USA Today reported.

“Some of these details are still under investigation,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

This question comes to mind: when will the US and West wake and smell the coffee? Iran is waging a major cyber war against Washington and its allies despite all the nuclear negotiations and all the incentives the Obama administration has been providing.

Earnest and other officials said the installation of a new security system enabled them to detect the massive theft in April.
The Office of Personnel Management said it will soon begin notifying up to 4 million current and former federal employees who might be affected by the attack. 4 million people! If this isn’t an embarrassment, I don’t know what is.

OPM conducts the vast majority of federal background investigations, which raises another question: Were detailed background forms also accessed by hackers. Officials said they couldn’t say.
Meanwhile, lawmakers questioned just how adequate the nation’s cyber defense is.
The attack is ‘yet another example of America being walked over by rivals and adversaries.’ said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., one of the candidates for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
‘I fear a cyber ’Pearl Harbor’ is increasingly more likely if we do not invest in the necessary infrastructure to protect our nation,’ he said.
President Obama has made cyber security a major priority, which means it is a priority for his top counter-terrorism adviser, Lisa Monaco, officials said.

Thank god it is a major priority, or else the number of people whose data was hacked would have probably skyrocketed (if it hasn’t already). The issue isn’t about making this a priority or just investing in the necessary infrastructure. The main problem is in the Obama administration’s childish appeasement policy vis-à-vis Iran, just like that of Chamberlain with Hitler and the Nazis.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Iran possess the means to launch cyber-attacks. She went on to call for improvements for the nation’s cyber structure, citing widely held concerns about cyber-attacks on water systems, the electrical grid, air traffic control operations, power plants and large computer systems in general.
‘As the experts continue to tell us, it is not a matter of if a devastating attack occurs, but when,’ she said.

So, what should be done? Can anything be done? Is there any solution for Iran or do we have to learn how to tolerate the ayatollahs and continue spending billions of taxpayer dollars and euros to just contain Iran? In fact, the Iranian democratic opposition led by Maryam Rajavi has been voicing solutions and how to bring about real change in Iran, not just the moderation hoax claimed by Rouhani.  Her movement will be staging a major rally in Paris on June 13 where over 100,000 Iranian exiles and hundreds of prominent international political figures will be expressing their support for a new and free Iran.​
