Guardian Continues to Support Isolated Iranian Regime

As the Iranian regime continues to mismanage its economy and faces the reality of civil unrest, the mullah are determined to point fingers and create another bad guy to blame for its troubles. One of the most recent attempts is an article in the Guardian, which was written by Arron Merat, a well-known advocate of the regime and President Hassan Rouhani.

The Guardian appears to be determined to paint the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as a right-wing terrorist cult, one that supports the agenda of U.S. President Donald Trump. The article by Merat, for example, continues to repeat malicious allegations, many that are tied to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

Visit in August Leads to Questions Regarding Journalist’s Integrity

After his visit to Albania where the relocated PMOI/MEK members have built a home, a joint article was published with two well-known MOIS agents. Questions regarding Merat’s objectivity were raised when a copy of his article was provided to MOIS agents prior to publication.

“I am dismayed that the Guardian should pay lip-service to such absurd and disgraceful fabrications, propagated by a pariah regime that is widely recognized as a sponsor of international terror. Indeed, the recent arrest of Iranian agents in Europe and America, who are planning assassinations and terror attacks on members of the Iranian opposition, are evidence of this regime’s malign intentions,” said Struan Stevenson, the president of the European Iraqi Freedom Association and a former member of the European Parliament, in a open letter to the Guardian.

Sanctions Are Impacting the Iranian Economy

Part of the reason for this type of distraction is that the sanctions are increasing the downward spiral of the Iranian economy. Over the last few years, inflation and unemployment have continued to rise. In fact, the Iranian middle class has been virtually wiped out.

There is a growing recognition among young and educated Iranians that change is needed to allow Iran to fully contribute in a positive way to the region and the international community. The regime’s response has been to amplify their repressive efforts, in an attempt to stope the inevitable uprising from the Iranian people. Yet, they have been unable to stop the increasing number of protests and demonstrations.

“It is sad that there are still appeasers in the western press and political circles who are prepared to close their eyes to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s human rights abuse, aggressive military expansionism, sponsorship of terrorism and cyber warfare. They believe that ‘constructive dialogue’ with one of the world’s most evil regimes is preferable to taking a firm line and demanding that Iran behaves like,… ‘a normal state’,” said Stevenson.

According to the Human Right Monitor (HRM), there has been an increase in executions with at least 22 in October alone. This includes a young woman who was only 17 at the time of her alleged crime. Clearly, there needs to a rejection of the regime’s propaganda in order to support the Iranian people in their course to define the future of their country.
