Iranian media claimed Saturday, that the Revolutionary Guard has built a new attack drone which is similar to a U.S. stealth drone captured five years ago.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported Saturday that the “Saegheh” drone was built by the Guard's aerospace division and is similar to the RQ-170 Sentinel spy drone.
The report did not elaborate on the new drone's range.
Iran said last year that it had successfully tested its replica of the RQ-170.
In Aug. 2012, it was reported that Chinese delegation visited Iran and copied the U.S. stealthy RQ-170 drone. A group of 17 Chinese experts had visited Iran not only to inspect, but also to collect and bring back to China some key components of the RQ-170 drone.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
