The third round in a week of Iranian C-802 shore-to-ship missiles Saturday night targeted US Navy ships in the Red Sea from the Yemeni coast. US Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson told reporters that the three vessels patrolling the Bab al-Mandeb strait “seemed to have come under attack in the Red Sea, again from coastal defense cruise missiles fired from the coast of Yemen.” Last Thursday, after a previous C-802 attack, the US flotilla hit back with Tomahawk cruise missiles against the Yemen-based radar stations.
DEBKAfile: Iran this month supplied the Yemeni Houthi rebels with the C-802 missiles as a means of asserting its control of the strategic Red Sea strait. Revolutionary Guards are operating the radar stations used to guide them to target.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
