Moscow says nuclear-capable missiles permanent in Kaliningrad

A senior Russian MP said Tuesday that Moscow would permanently station nuclear-capable missiles in Kaliningrad, a region between the NATO states of Poland and Lithuania, in retaliation for a military build-up by the alliance in eastern Europe. President Vladimir Putin has threatened “counter-measures” against NATO expansion. US State Department spokesman John Kirby said that the deployment of the missiles was “destabilizing to European security” and called on Russia to desist from words or deeds “inconsistent with promoting security and stability.”
