Elite British police storm six locations, seeking network behind London attack

British counterterror police raided six locations nationwide early Thursday morning in an attempt to arrest the members of the network behind the previous day’s attack in the British capital. Some of the raids took place in the city of Birmingham’s neighborhood of Egbaston which has four mosques and a 12 percent Muslim population. Several suspects were arrested. Nearby streets as well as main roads leading to the area in Birmingham, about 160 km northwest of London, were blocked while the operation was carried out. Several hours earlier, police raided the agency that rented the vehicle used in the attack. Four people were killed and more than 40 others were wounded when the terrorist ran down pedestrians and cyclists on Westminster Bridge and then continued at high speed to the parliament building where he stabbed policemen and passers-by. The terrorist was shot and seriously wounded by a policeman and then taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Meanwhile, the London police said Thursday morning that seven of the wounded are in critical condition.
