Ecuador demanded Friday that Britain grant WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, 45, safe passage out of the country after the Swedish authorities dropped sex assault charges against him. Assange has been confined in asylum at its London embassy for seven years. Assange has indicated in the past that he will not leave until he has assurances from the United States he will not be pursued for espionage and treason for the information WikiLeaks has published. The London Metropolitan Police said they were obliged to arrest Assange for failing to surrender to a British court back in June 2012, but did not indicate whether they would execute his extradition on a US warrant. Last month, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions said arresting Assange would be a priority and President Donald Trump has also said he would support this decision.
