WARNING POSTERS DON'T GET YOURSELF SUED! University professors among latest sued over R-J copyrights (Yikes they could make a fortune off of some of our stories so be careful contributors )
I sent our technical staff a bug report as I do not see my links appearing on site however they do appear to me when posting these story’s so if you cannot see the links in the story my apologies hopefully they will get this fixed. Here are snippets from two story’s from The Las Vegas Sun. One is titled University professors among latest sued over R-J copyrights and the other is titled Judge questions Righthaven over R-J copyright suit costs. You can Google them if you cannot see my links and need them.

“Operators of four more websites were hit Thursday with copyright infringement lawsuits alleging material from the Las Vegas Review-Journal was posted on the sites without authorization.
The suits bring to 107 the number of copyright infringement lawsuits filed since March over online postings of Review-Journal stories.
The suits are filed by Las Vegas company Righthaven LLC, which looks for online infringements of Review-Journal stories, obtains copyrights for those stories and then sues the alleged offenders.
The latest suits, like the others, were filed in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas. They each seek damages of $75,000 and forfeiture of the defendants’ website domain names to Righthaven.”
I see people posting things in full all the time and eventually this may come back to haunt YOU! They may have started with the Las Vegas Review Journal but you can be certain they are busy signing up new business as they just signed up the following news outlets “Righthaven just signed up WEHCO Media, a privately-owned company in Little Rock, Ark., that has 15 daily newspapers, 13 weekly newspapers and 13 cable television companies in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee.
Its biggest papers include the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock and the Chattanooga Times Free Press in Tennessee.
Paul Smith, president of WEHCO Newspapers Inc., said in a Democrat-Gazette story Thursday: “It’s a pretty serious matter when someone takes your copy, information you’ve spent a lot of money to produce.”
He added, according to the story: “I think you’ll find many newspapers that [will] use [Righthaven] and other firms like this to try to stop people from pirating their information.”
WEHCO says on its website that it has a partnership with Stephens Media in which the operations of their Northwest Arkansas publications were combined last November.
Also, Righthaven filed at least its 103rd copyright infringement lawsuit on Wednesday in federal court in Las Vegas”.
Keep in mind a copyright suit could be initiated by anyone even without Righthaven and many news services have in house attorney’s to do just that!. Remember the posting rules since by hitting submit you are liable! When you contribute this warning is posted above the publish story button!
