Canadian officials: Sell Military Space Program as a Scientific Program

“The initial steps of the next major conflict are more than likely to start in orbit and Canada should be prepared.”

From Dateline Zero – The above statement came about during the annual conference of the Canadian Space Society, over the past weekend. At this conference, officials discussed plans being made within the Canadian defense department to overhaul its space defense policy.

There will “absolutely” be more of a military role for Canada in space than in the past, Col. Andre Dupuis said on Saturday, Nov 20, to reporters during an interview. “The first line in the sand for the next major conflict may very well be in space or cyberspace, but probably not on the ground or in the air or in the seas.”

This comes only months after the United States Air Force launched a shuttle into orbit that, it seems, can vanish for long periods of time and reappear someplace unexpected. Also, there is growing anexiety over China’s military expansion, which has included a space program for a while now.

Thus, Col. Dupuis, and others at the Defense Department, are making the case that Canada needs to expand into space, or become militarily compromised. Interestingly, Col. Dupuis and company are all saying very frankly that the way to expand the military toward the stars is to sell the military-space program as a scientific program.
