Because They Hate America

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The NSA scandal has resurrected perhaps the dumbest argument (non-argument, really) in all of American politics: Anyone who criticizes the government, especially the Almighty Security State apparatus, does so “Because they hate America.” Companion non-arguments include throwing around the word “extreme” and implying association with “the left.”

No matter how hard you try, “they hate America” does not logically follow from “stop collecting info on innocent people without probable cause or reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing.” This type of (non)argument is ridiculous on its face. Are we really supposed to believe the NSA’s Stasi-like surveillance program IS America?

Not the land, the people, the culture, the traditions, etc., these aren’t America. No. … The federal government, as embodied by its most secretive, dangerous, and heavily-armed forces, is America herself?

Wow. Talk about creepy collectivist group-think.

Underlying all of these various “they hate America” outbursts is the collectivist theories of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who following Plato, identified the State and society as one. Contra America’s individualist origins, this notion does not regard the State as an external force, nor a form of political association, the State is the very pith of civil society itself. Only the Messianic State can emancipate the individuals “latent germs of goodness heretofore frustrated by a hostile society.”

Being that the State is society, any and all laws that exist we have therefore imposed upon ourselves. “Freedom” is then defined as the willing obedience of the law. In other words, the individual can only realize freedom through submission to State authority.

What we don’t see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do. — Rudy Giuliani, popular “conservative” and 2008 Republican Party presidential candidate

Hmmmm … Who is “peeling off” with the left again?

The American heritage was one of individual liberty, personal responsibility and freedom from government … Today, it is the government that is free — free to do whatever it wants. There is no subject, no issue, no matter that is not subject to legislation. — Harry Browne, author, investment analyst, and twice the Libertarian Party presidential candidate

Who’s helping the terrorists win by squashing our freedoms in the name of “security” and authority?

Something else to think about.

The first appearance of modern totalitarianism in the Western world wasn’t in Italy or Germany but in the United States of America. How else would you describe a country where the world’s first modern propaganda ministry was established; political prisoners by the thousands were harassed … the national leader accused foreigners and immigrants of injecting treasonous “poison” into the American bloodstream; [and] newspapers and magazines were shut down for criticizing the government[?]

Philosophically, organizationally, and politically the progressives were as close to authentic, homegrown fascists as any movement America has ever produced. [They were] militaristic, fanatically nationalist, imperialist … [and] enamored of the Bismarckian welfare state. — Jonah Goldberg, Liberal Fascism

One more time … Who exactly is “peeling off” with the left?

And who doesn’t want their “Bismarckian welfare” payments cut? Hmmmm …

On top of confusing the State with society, doesn’t “militaristic, fanatically nationalist, [and] imperialist” more or less describe neoconservative ideology? Um, well, uh, uh … Let’s not forget too, that neoconservatism is riddled with “former” Bolshevik red diaper babies . Which explains why, when it comes to issues of State power, so many hardcore “conservative” righties find themselves siding with the likes of Obama, Biden, Mesdames Feinstein and Graham, and of course Satan’s Little Republican Helper.

Let me try to help clear your collectivist delusions …

America is not the federal government. America is not any given federal government bureaucracy and/or program. America was founded in revolution against a central government. A patriot, in the famous words of Edward Abbey, “must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”

Who Really “Hates America”?

The vast, unaccountable, secretive “security” bureaucracy that feels us up at airports, randomly stops us on the road, and spies on us in ways that would make the East German Stasi proud, is mush more reminiscent of the old communist U.S.S.R. than anything that could possibly be considered American.

Yet the “conservatives” Loyalists keep trying to enforce their perverted, State-centric version of “patriotism” by calling the defenders of liberty “traitors,” and gleefully calling for the heads of those who upset the American Stasi? Get real.

Who “hates America” again?

Meanwhile the Fourth Amendment is dust, credit card transactions are tracked and analyzed, Internet data surveilled, our rulers are busy making lists and checking them twice, and their overly-armed Cheka are busy fabricating crimes.

Hint: There’s nothing even remotely American about any of this crap.

But, but … It’s “legal!”

When you contemplate that barn door, keep in mind that every atrocity ever committed by the German fascists, the Russian communists, the Pol Pot lunatics, the Chinese Maoists, or the Iranian and Saudi savages was entirely legal under their own codes.

Hitler didn’t break any laws either. He made them.

Law consists of two lines above my signature. — Saddam Hussein

But c’mon now, why would anyone dare to question “our” Messianic Bureaucracy? They’re angels one and all!

I know, I know … It’s the government. They’re here to help.

I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’ because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. — Thomas Jefferson

I posit that the only people guilty of actually “hating America” today are those eagerly smearing the whistleblowers in a sad attempt to defend the Status Quo. It is they who are hostile to America’s limited-government tradition.

Today’s federal government — the biggest, most expensive, most powerful State the world has ever known — is a corrupt and lawless institution. Regardless of the party in power, the Constitution is treated like something to wipe their ass with at best. They do nothing but lie — both Republican and Democratic politicians alike. Their legions of petty tyrant bureaucrats slither behind arbitrary decrees of regulation and secrecy. The Gang of 545 have made penny-pinching misers out of formerly spendthrift drunken sailors. There are no legitimate excuses for the mess they’ve made. Zip. Zero. Nada. And making excuses for them (regarding anything at this point) is just plain sad, pathetic and quite frankly, embarrassing to watch.

The funny thing is, you wouldn’t trust any of these people to water your plants if they were simply your nextdoor neighbor. But they’re politicians your “leaders,” and they’re on TV! … and suddenly you’re happy they’re sporting “Disposition Matrix” kill lists?

Wtf?

Plain and simple. The federal government are the bad guys here. Not Snowden. Not Manning. Not Assange. The federal government are the bad guys. The entire institution doesn’t have an ounce of credibility to stand on, let alone the kind of trust necessarily required of knowing anyone’s intimate details. The chief traitors in our midst, those who deserve to be detained and tortured down at Guantanamo Bay, include the members of both the Bush Jr. and Obama regimes, the Congress, the CIA, the NSA, DHS, FBI, TSA, IRS, the rest of the federal alphabet soup, and soulless bureaucrats who do their bidding.

They are the people who’ve betrayed every last principle of America’s founding. Yet some “conservatives” actually believe they’re benevolent angels worthy of monitoring our every move? Give me a break. These people don’t give a rat’s ass about you, me, or our freedom. In fact we’re their primary enemy! So deal with it … The only “freedom” they’re “fighting for” is Rousseau’s boundless freedom of the State to do whatever the hell it damn well pleases.

All the Infrastructure a Tyrant Would Need, Courtesy of Bush and Obama … As awful as ObamaCare is, and it is indeed awful, it doesn’t change the relationship between individual Americans and their government quite as radically as the Surveillance State has (unconditionally approved by “conservative” idolaters of state power), especially as it’s given birth to the bizarre idea that politicians and bureaucrats should be supported — even applauded — for overstepping their constitutional limits during times of crisis.

The deterioration of every government begins with the decay of principles on which it was founded. — Montesquieu, The Spirit of Laws

The idea behind all of this “keeping us safe” claptrap is, of course, that liberty will kill Americans! A government strictly limited by the Constitution is a bona fide death trap. Mao, Stalin and The Shah among others, had it right all along! The State needs more power, not less. The State needs the “freedom” to spy on millions of innocent people, check them at random, and even murder them if the president says so. Because anything that interferes with the unilateral power of the president and/or the Security State, will undoubtedly cause the deaths of perhaps thousands millions of Americans.

Scary, huh?

Nevermind that it’s far more likely you’ll be struck by lightening or drown in a bathtub than actually being killed in a terrorist attack. But we’re scared! Hornets, wasps and bees are more likely to kill you than any given fundamentalist Islamic jihadist group on their very best day too. Heck, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, getting crushed to death by a television is every bit as likely as being killed in a terrorist attack. But we’re frightened … and only the government can possibly save us … Warrants, due process, privacy, etc., you know, liberty … is just too damn scary for us “brave” defenders of the Status Quo.

Germans in the Third Reich and Soviet citizens in the Stalin era had a better idea of their government’s agendas than do “freedom and democracy” Americans today. — Paul Craig Roberts

Did you know you’re 8 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than a terrorist? Yeah, that’s right. Go stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Now tell me one more time, who is the enemy with the most to profit from secret wiretaps, Internet surveillance, DNA collection and other tools of tyranny? Your own government? Nah, those long-bearded cavemen on the other side of the planet, yeah, that’s it.

The Founders didn’t cede their liberty for the sake of fighting the King’s wars. On the contrary, they had the courage to go after their own government instead. They didn’t believe in a Messianic State that could make men equal and moral. They scoffed at utopian visions like government-led “global democratic revolutions” too. Lacking such courage, today’s “hawks” surrender their liberties in exchange for empty yet emotionally appealing promises of safety — bald-facced lies. They shun liberty and strict constitutionalism for the sweet the siren songs of radical Ivy League lawyers and political hacks.

Those who defend the Surveillance State obviously oppose the simple, relatively powerless federal government of America’s birth. So they can call people names all they want, if that makes them feel better, because it is they who have been exposed as the genuine anti-Americans.
