Greg to Speak at ‘spiked’ Magazine’s Sold Out ‘free speech NOW!’ Conference Tomorrow

Tomorrow, FIRE President and CEO Greg Lukianoff will join some of the biggest names in free speech and civil liberties as a featured speaker at spiked magazine’s latest “free speech NOW!” event: “The First Amendment in the 21st Century: 
Reinvigorating Old Rights for New Times.”

The half-day conference runs from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. EDT at Washington D.C.’s Newseum and features three sessions, each of which “will explore the troubles afflicting core First Amendment freedoms – speech, press and religion.”

Greg will speak at the afternoon’s first session: “Is the First Amendment Enough? The Crisis of Freedom on Campuses and Beyond.” Along with panelists Jeffrey Rosen, president of the National Constitution Center, Nick Gillespie, editor-in-chief of Reason.com, and David L. Hudson, Jr., the Newseum’s First Amendment ombudsman, Greg will discuss censorship threats from non-state actors, like “Twittermobs, campus campaigners and PR-wary companies.” The session will run from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., spiked editor Brendan O’Neill and Daily Beast columnist Michael C. Moynahan will take on “Press Freedom After Charlie Hebdo,” asking, “Should There Be Any Limits to Offensiveness?”

Finally, at 3:30 p.m., a session on religious freedom—”Freedom of Religion: The Forgotten Liberty?”—will feature lawyer and social critic Wendy Kaminer; Edwina Rogers, CEO of the Secular Policy Institute; the Rev. Robert A. Sirico, co-founder of the Acton Institute; and senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, Gregory S. Baylor.

The event is free and open to the public, but tickets have sold out.
