Why the Paris Climate Agreement Is All Pain, No Gain for Americans

As President Trump considers his final decision on the Paris Climate Agreement, he should consider the benefits of withdrawing U.S. commitment from this harmful treaty, says Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) experts.

CEI’s director of its Center for Energy and Environment Myron Ebell released the following statement about President Trump’s imminent decision:

“The Paris Climate Agreement promises no measurable climate benefits at an incredible economic and political cost to Americans. By getting out of the agreement, President Trump is leading the world toward a brighter future as low energy prices over the long-term will benefit consumers and energy-intensive industries.

“Exiting the agreement would overturn Obama’s end run around the treaty process, safeguard Americans’ ability to self-govern without foreign influence, dispel the long shadow over our economic and energy future, and expand access to affordable energy around the globe, helping eradicate poverty at home and abroad.

“To put an end to this 25-year misadventure in global governance and prevent a future stroke of the pen from restarting this mess, President Trump should submit the treaty to the Senate for its advice and consent. The Senate will then have the opportunity to listen to the will of the American people and vote against the treaty.”
