London's Anti-Uber Decision Will Impact Jobs, Travel Accessibility/Affordability

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

On news today that the city of London is not renewing Uber’s license to operate in the city, Competitive Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Iain Murray warned of the negative consumer impact and questioned the motives for the decision:

“Anyone who lived in London pre-Uber will know the Black Cab driver’s expression, ‘I ain’t going south of the river at this time of night.’ Uber solved this and many other problems of bad customer service for millions of Londoners. Transport for London’s second revocation of Uber’s license looks less like concern for Londoners’ safety and more like a political pay-off to those cabbies. The price is 40,000 people out of work and a significant decrease in safety for all those who can’t afford or can’t find a black cab late at night. American cities should not follow London’s lead.”

The other shoe was that drivers were insured had the knowledge, and tended not to be bar in rare cases multiple murderer’s or rapists. Safe but expensive or cheap and risky, better conditions for the drivers too, Uber so often drops its rates, forces work patterns or kicks off drivers from its system for non pickups. Truth is it lost all its cases about not being an employer too, so it owes PAYE and national insurance.
