COCOA BEACH – Dozens of sea turtles are washing up on Brevard beaches, and numbers are drastically up from last year.
The Sea Turtle Preservation Society believes they know the reason.
A loggerhead was found near 11th Street South on Tuesday.
It was one of 56 that have washed up in March so far.
But when you compare that to March 2010, there were only 19 reported for the whole month.
Officials believe an easterly wind blowing from the ocean and boat strikes are to blame.
The society uses spraypaint to mark the dead turtles it finds.
