Pygmy or Dwarf Sperm Whale Found Dead N.C.

CARTERET COUNTY – Update:
The whale was found dead Saturday, according to officials.

Marine Fisheries workers hope that a whale stuck in a local marina, can swim its way back to safety in the ocean.
They believe it’s a Pygmy or Dwarf Sperm whale.
The eight foot whale was last seen at about 4:30 Saturday morning swimming around in circles in a marina near Beaufort S.C.
This kind of whale normally lives far out in the ocean, and is hard to see at the surface.
The worst case scenario is that it end up on a beach, and it would have to euthanize the whale.
A spokeswoman from the Marine Mammal Stranding Network asks people to please stay away from the whale,
because boats in the area might make the situation worse.
