Two ABC News Anchors Quit Live On Air
Two ABC news anchors quit their jobs during a live TV broadcast, according to video uploaded to the internet.
Citing a long battle with senior management on journalistic practices on Bangor TV stations, news co-presenters Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio announced their resignation at the end of the news on Tuesday 6 pm.
Michaels and Consiglio, who have a combined total of 12 ½ years of service at ABC 7 and sister station Channel 22, surprised the staff members and viewers with their joint resignations on Tuesday night.
“I just wanted to know I was doing the best I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I could not do that,” Consiglio, a native of northeastern Connecticut who broke into TV as a sports reporter in April 2006, said. Not everyone was surprised by the resignations live on the air.
“No, that was unfortunate, but not unexpected,” Mike Palmer, vice president and general manager, said. “We will hire experienced people to fill these positions, sooner rather than later.”
Neither journalist had told anyone of their decision before Tuesday’s news.
“We think that if we had offered our plans off the air, we would not have been able to say goodbye to the community on the air and it was really important for us to do that,” Michaels, a news director of the station, said. http://www.yourjewishnews.com

I fail to see any integrity in their exit…instead it appeared more like rats leaving a sinking ship.

As of now, the two of us just have differing opinions…with one attacking the other without qualification.
What I said stands. Reading between the lines – something you appear incapable of doing, says that they will have had previous heated disagreements with their editor/producer whatever about nthe quality of the news they were announcing or the bias of the news they were reporting.
This will mean they would have been watched like hawks by their bosses. Their action spoke louder than any words anyway.
Its like this.
If I “suddenly” became aware of the fact that I was a party to a public deception which has and still is causing an incalculable number of deaths of innocent people, which includes children, I would have sent a clear message, by saying nothing but ‘I quit’…period end of story.
That…would in itself would cause people to stop and reflect on those two words.
But I don’t expect you to acknowledge that, because you have already reacted in a knee jerk fashion, and at this point already have both feet in your mouth.

Why would they need to make follow up statements – they were looking forward to a new studio set and layout so considered news reading a good way to earn a living, but gave it up. People just DON’T do those things WITHOUT GOOD REASON – especially the girl who was going self-employed – a big jump for previously employed people.
One or two things to get your grey matter working.
Journalism is so important. It can be the key to our society’s redemption/ascension or the siren’s song that lures us into the rocks; the snake charmer metaphor works well too, I think. Our news sources are obviously corrupt beyond belief and recognition, with little to no basis in reality. If you want to tell the truth nowadays (Mainstream, anyways), you have to find a way to disguise it in humor or craziness, a sort of sleight-of-hand mind trick. Not many will understand the message but those that do will thank you for it. This has always been the case…
The whores to replace them line goes for miles. Too many would sell their souls, blow the boss, or basically do anything they want them to do. There are always people who are willing to sell out their fellow man for pieces of paper and shiny things. They should instead make their paychecks and donate part of it to local people who are struggling. Now they’ll have nothing. Bad move in my eyes.
All of these talking heads have access to the internet and read the things we do.
It is incredibly naive to think that for all those years they were unaware of the fact they were not reporting the real facts.
That goes for ‘the Oprah’, Dr Phil, and so on right on down the line.
You will notice how sharp an d discerning they all are regarding the issues they cherry pick to raise on their programs of distraction…and yet they all behave like wrestling referee;s, looking the other way when it comes to ‘the game’ these global criminals are running.
For instance, when it comes to the staggering numbers of children abused and abducted, they will instead (every now and again, to appear socially responsible) focus on the lone pedophiles in society who are responsible for a minute percentage of those huge numbers.
Men and women need much time to repent.

In my first comment, I basically stated that their closing comments were open to interpretation, and that I failed to see any show of integrity, as it relates to any cryptic message implied in their abrupt departure.
That was when he stated that I was blind and stupid because I failed to see the ‘integrity’ of their actions.
By having a different take, you also failed to see it, therefore making you equally as blind and stupid.

I agree, its the discussion of points of view that are the most interesting in this case…as opposed to the ego driven oneupsmanship that ensued.
A possibly valid point was made, but lost in the minutia, in that they would have been cut off had they tried to say that they were leaving because they were being pressured to read deceptive reports.
However, their dialogue did not indicate any moral or ethical motivation, making your assessment as likely as any.
It will be interesting to find out what their reason was for leaving tho.

heh, this proved to be an inspiring story.. an exploration into the meaning of integrity and it’s application. what constitutes true integrity? difficult to determine that in this case by what was presented in this article and video as there are inconsistent elements. if one is to assess the final action as an act of integrity, the statement reveals a history of actions that were lacking, and the inadvertent admission of that fact was not exactly forthcoming…
however, the act of resigning in light of this, is still perceived as an act of integrity, removed from all past actions. a “coming clean”. perhaps more an act of redemption..
still.. would be nice if this story inspired others to do the same. judgement? a good action on their part. did it constitute true integrity…?
