Windows 11 Gets New Layout Options For The Start Menu

With a new insider build, Microsoft provides new layouts for the Start menu of Windows 11. In addition, the clock and date display is brought back to secondary monitors.

Microsoft has released the build 22509 of Windows 11 in the Dev channel for insiders. This build brings new layout options for the Start menu, where the user can choose from three options: “Standard”, “More pins” or “More recommendations”. If you select “More pins”, only a series with recommended files will be displayed in favor of additional pinned rows. If you select “More recommendations”, the opposite happens – at the expense of pinned shortcuts, an extra row of recommended files is displayed.

As a further innovation of the build, the time and date are now also displayed again in the taskbar on the second monitor. Further, additional functions are migrated from the Control Panel to the new, visually refreshed settings menu – for example, the advanced sharing settings (network detection, file and printer shares and public folder shares). And it is also possible to sort the installed apps in reverse alphabetical order (Z-A). Also delivered with the build is an update for the screen reader Narrator in Edge, which should make surfing the web easier. Especially the input in editing fields should be more comfortable, and the navigation is improved.
