Numerology Can It Be Lost In Translation?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

One of the questions that constantly vexed me when I first started studying numerology was that of different languages.  For example, ‘Love’ is only love in English.  In other languages it’s translated to words that have different numerological values so how can numerology be applied universally?

To understand we first need to look at the root of language, or more particularly English and European languages. And it all starts with Hebrew.

The Hebrew alphabet is a written language only, considered sacred and endowed with the essence of God.  As such it contains no vowels because vowels were considered too sacred to write down.  Vowels were considered the breath of God and therefore inspirational.  If you make a vowel sound now you’ll notice that you use your breath (your spirit) whereas to make a consonant you use your mouth or tongue (your physical body).

In the Hebrew alphabet letters and numbers were also interchangeable: they were one and the same thing and the symbology of the shape of the letter/number was important in explaining its meaning and energetic vibration. Names were chosen according to these vibrations.

Energetically, this explains the power of numerology. Practically though, in the development of language, translation and communication it presents many difficulties.  No wonder the Bible has been so open to interpretation!

To make it more practical the Ancient Greeks added vowels and omitted some letters that were not used in their culture.  The Romans did the same but the core of our alphabet can still be easily traced back to its Hebrew roots.

The majority of numerology is used to interpret the energy and vibration of a date (usually a birth or other significant date) and a given name (such as a birth name, nick name, company name or brand name).  Of course none of these get lost in translation because the name carries over whichever European or English language you are using.  It’s only when you start to look at nouns for things that the question of translation comes up.

Let’s look at the word ‘Love’.  In English love has a numerical value of 9.  The number 9 represents a bigger view of the world.  The energetic vibration of 9 removes us from living life as a single human being and gets us to take notice of humanity. So we could see the word ‘Love’ in its universal, unconditional sense.

In French we have ‘L’Amour’. This has a different numerological value: 8.  The number 8 is close to 9 in terms of how we perceive the world: we are still able to see the bigger picture and understand the spiritual aspect of our world but the energetic vibration of 8 still has a strong grounded effect as opposed to the energy of 9 which is not as grounded.

So, could French culture have a different interpretation of ‘L’Amour’? Do the French view love differently from the English? When they speak of love and experience love are they more grounded than an English speaking nation? Do the English use the word ‘Love’ to mean one thing and yet pop in the word ‘L’Amour’ when they want to convey a different nuance?

I’m still studying this aspect of numerology but, if you speak more than one language I would be interested if you’ve come across a cultural difference in the understanding of certain words and their translations.
