The most truthful mirrors?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Have you noticed that, with some mirrors you look great and, with others you don’t even want to look?

When I’m at the hairdresser my hair always seems to look glossy and shiny in their mirror but, in some dressing rooms when I’m trying clothes on I look pasty and washed out. In fact, many businesses are missing a trick by not getting their lighting and their mirrors right. But I digress because that isn’t what this article is about. I don’t want to talk about mirrors on the wall. Instead I want to talk about the very real mirrors that we all have in our lives: everyone else.

I’ve noticed recently that most people I come into contact with push a point home to me about an issue that I’m dealing with. Maybe somebody is rude or short tempered or just happy or silly. Maybe somebody is worried and wants to talk or doesn’t have the time to stop and smell the flowers. Even with some of my clients their issues and objectives are pertinent to the same issues and objectives that I’m experiencing at the same time.

What a coincidence? Or maybe not. Maybe what I’m seeing in all these people are reflections of an aspect of me. What I am giving out is drawing these people and situations to me.

Now I like that idea if I encounter somebody I like, somebody who makes me laugh. But when I encounter somebody who’s rude it can be hard to take that I am seeing an aspect of me. But if I’m honest with myself it’s very valid because I, like everybody else, do not always consider how I appear to others and how my actions might affect them. That’s not to say that I should go around not being me in case I upset others. Of course I have to be me. But what I see in others can be a way for me to take control of my life and understand me more fully. Think about it. If I become judgemental or upset by somebody else’s behaviour I give them power over me and lose control of my life. If I view their behaviour as a reflection of me, and something I may need to improve, then I keep control and I keep growing. That seems preferable to me even if I have to admit that I’m not perfect!

Why not look at the people in your life and see your reflection?
