Beware the Dream Thief

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Do you have a dream? I’m not talking about goals or objectives. I’m talking about a vision of how you would like your life to be like without restraints. And, if you do, do you know how to protect it from the Dream Thief?

Our ability to dream is an amazing tool that we can tap into: our dreams can become the motivating force behind all our actions, help us to clarify what we really want and provide that sometimes needed light during a dark period.

More importantly, our dreams can become an escape route from the mundane aspects of our daily life. They can lift us and stop us getting stuck in it all. I say more importantly because, for many people, our dreams are just that: a little escapism.

Many people say ‘you have to live in the real world.’ But why? Of course you need to pop into the real world to work, to eat, to do the housework. But why should you stay there and get stuck?

Do you often see people with a little secret smile? Chances are they’re escaping to their dream world and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t too.

But, how do you protect yourself from the Dream Thief?

Let me tell you about the Dream Thief. They’re the ones who encourage you to share your dream with them and then they say ‘you have to live in the real world.’ ‘That’s not going to happen.’ ‘Who do you think you’re kidding?’ ‘Life isn’t like that.

And, of course, for the Dream Thief, life will never be like that because they don’t have a dream of their own. It’s not that they want yours: who would want somebody else’s dream? They just want to take away the power of yours and anchor you down on their level. And most of them think they are helping you.

How do you stop the Dream Thief? Don’t share your dream – with anyone. It’s yours and yours alone.

In this Chinese year governed by Wind energy we are perfectly placed to use our ability to dream and try out different realities. You may never reach your dream in this reality but, every time you escape to it, you are there: you are living your dream. It’s okay, it’s right for you and it’s your treasure so protect it.
