I’m not sure how to get through another year of holiday dysfunction. Every year the teens in our extended family want more and more. Super expensive gifts; video games, game players, TV’s, tablets, and pricy telephones that might as well be computers! How did the Holy Holidays become a lavish electronic gadget buying event? Help! – An Unhappy Elf in Utah.

Dear Elf,

The over commercialism of the Holidays is sad and I refuse to participate. It’s time for parents to undo the spoiling and bring meaning back to Christmas and to Hanukkah. Scale back on the gifts and increase family fun time and participation. Reincorporate the traditions that you love; nativity scenes, Christmas Eve church service, candle lighting and blessings, a gift exchange, cookie baking, stockings with small presents and candy. I’d suggest that a family such as yours adopt a family that has so little. Forget the six hundred dollar phone – you know what I’m talking about! Get the teens involved in buying thoughtful gifts for a family in need. The act of giving is spiritually fulfilling and uplifting. Help your children build character and become humanitarians.

Dear Wondering,

So many people visualize God as a wise old man sitting in judgment on a throne in the clouds. In actuality God is without gender, God is the all-powerful universal energy of unconditional love and light. Our all-knowing God does not need manmade rules and limitations. Religions are manmade systems designed by humans to keep society running under strict controls. All souls enter Heaven regardless of their religious beliefs on Earth. God does not play favorites or prefer one religion or sect. Jews, Gentiles, Muslims, Buddhists and all other religious followers are treated equally in Heaven. Earthbound religions are left behind as a soul moves into the continuing cycle of life. More important than any manmade religion is a person’s purity of heart, that is our guarantee of a place in Heaven. There is no religion in Heaven: there is only Love!

The rules have changed so much when it comes to dating and mating. I’ve had a great love although I believe it was a karmic relationship because of the difficulties that we experienced. This time around I’m looking for a soul mate relationship and I’m trying online dating sites. It’s a bit overwhelming because there are so many people there. I’d like to know is there a short cut to sorting through possible mates? Are there specific signs to look for when searching for a soul mate connection? – Dating Again in Alaska

Dear Dating,

You may have to kiss a lot of frogs: as the saying goes. We come to Earth to learn many spiritual lessons and work through our karmic debts. Spiritually speaking, love relationships are mostly souls that come together for the opportunity to resolve old karmic debts. Each partner is trying to learn, grow and heal. This is one of the reasons that relationships can be like a revolving door.

The good news, we all have more than one soul mate. To find that romantic partner you have to be ready for that energy to enter your life. So ask yourself, have I paved a way for a soul mate to enter? Have I transformed my life so that I don’t attract the same type of dysfunctional relationships? Do I know the attributes that I’m looking for in a mate? I suggest that you make a detailed list and then apply the law of attraction. You will draw to yourself the things that you are focusing on. You can manifest a new loving relationship. Be grateful and know with certainty that your partner is coming. Many times you will recognize a soul mate with a sense of familiarity; this is a soul level recognition. Know that there is someone out there that is seeking you too. Don’t settle true love is waiting.
