Just Like Windows 10, Windows 7 and 8 Also will Spy on You – Here’s How to Stop Them

Well, Windows 7 and Windows 8 OS users should also be worried as Windows 10 spying is now headed their way too…
Microsoft has been caught installing latest updates onto Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers that effectively introduce the same data collecting and user behavior tracking features used in Windows 10.
Under the new updates, the operating systems indiscriminately upload data to Microsoft’s servers, which might be a major privacy concern for many users.

Creepy Updates

The updates in question are:
  • KB3068708 – This update introduces the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices.
  • KB3022345 (replaced by KB3068708) – This update adds the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to in-market devices.
  • KB3075249
  • – This update adds telemetry points to the User Account Control (UAC) feature in order to collect data on elevations that come from low integrity levels.
  • KB3080149 – This package updates the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service to existing devices.
These recent updates released by Redmond install the “Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service” that is the most controversial component of the Microsoft’s newest operating system.
Once installed, the Diagnostics and Telemetry tracking service immediately begins phoning home to Microsoft even if privacy controls are enabled – apparently with no option to stop it.

These four updates bypasses the existing user preferences stored in Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating system and, as noted by gHacks, immediately starts exchanging your data with the following domains:

  • vortex-win.data.microsoft.com
  • settings-win.data.microsoft.com

How to Stop Windows 7 and Windows 8 from Spying on You?

The bigger question for users who are uncomfortable with these changes is: How do I stop them?
The best way to prevent Windows 7 and 8 from tracking you is to not install the latest updates. Unlike Windows 10, Windows 7 and Windows 8 updates are not mandatory, so you can choose not to download the updates.

However, if you have already installed these updates on your computers, you can remove them completely from your systems and the operating system will not automatically reinstall them without your permission.
Go to Control Panel > View installed updates > Remove all the four updates.
If you want to eliminate these updates faster, you can launch a command prompt window with administrator privileges and then type in the following commands one by one:
Once done, you can right-click on any updates shown by Windows Update and choose “Hide Update” to make sure that these updates won’t be reinstalled in case you reboot your system.

So, does this article impress upon you the need to have a free tool such as Toolwiz Time Freeze 2016 on your Windows machine? With this free tool, and after deleting the above updates to your Windows Operating System and changing the update mode to “NO”, every time you log off and reboot your machine, every update reverts back to the day you installed the program.

I am not affiliated with Toolwiz Time Freeze 2016.

Don’t think so. Just uninstall/remove these “Window Updates” from your computer and TURN OFF the AUTOMATIC UPDATING and you will be fine. Having to continually “restore” your computer back to the previous day seems like a time consuming waste of time, when all you need to do it Uninstall them on your computer, and turn OFF AUTOMATIC UPDATING!

Is this an NSA backdoor? Welcome to the new soviet union.

      • NCAALives

Yes. Windows has been doing this silently since Windows was created by now since they have a contract with NSA/US Gov, have they put it into overdrive. Remember, the program worked back then, and the OLD core will work today. It is all the new “improvement” updates that they are adding to make it spy and report itself to them…

EU is the new Soviet Union.

  PEOPLE! REMOVE THESE EVIL WINDOWS SPYING UPDATES FROM YOUR COMPUTER! My computer improved performance, and now no slow pauses. Remember to click on to STOP THEIR AUTOMATIC UPDATING, or they will put them back on whenever you are online.

Cut and paste these to a text file so you always have it after this story is no longer at the top! Removing them DOES NOT affect your computer working! Its all the newest krap they are addiing into the programs that are making your computer spy to NSA!

Don’t forget the original update that started it all way back several years ago. The one that ends in #1033. Many have forgot about that.

Also the recent one that ends in #1917.

I use Win7 as of now, and have for over 4 years on my laptop. Ever since a recently updated (unknowingly) some of Windows telemetry spyware, I noticed my memory was always decreasing, I had to clean my file cache and memory nearly 1-2 for every hour while on the internet. It really did not make sense asw to why my computer would be running 50-80% memory while only running Firefox and Thunderbird simultaneously. So I saw a post similar to this one about all the updates that are optional through Microsoft that essentially compensate for me not updating to Win10, hence, spyware on my computer.

Obviously, no spyware program would pick these up since they are Microsoft programs, but after I spent about an hour deleting and waiting for my computer to restart, degressing through the updates, my computer has not gone above 35% memory usage in the last 2 weeks. I appreciate healpful tips like this, and yes it totally helped and was the cause to my struggles.

You know the sound of a fan when a laptop is overheating, the hum? Well my laptop was doing that all of the time, even just idlling with a browser opened. Doesn’t do that any more. Kudos.

I can hardly keep up with stopping windows 8 from calling home because it by passes windows proxy servers, DNS servers and its own firewall and the reason i know this is because i watch sys-logs on my firewall.

Windows Ipv6 is turned off because it uses a tunnel to bypass firewalls and we are not running out of ipv4 addresess anyway or microsoft would be forced to release some of the 20 million Ip’s it has on ASN 8075

You know something is wrong when Microsoft won’t allow you to uninstall programs, stop services or even edit some schedule tasks when signed in as the administrator and they even go so far as stopping developers from setting some values in the windows registry.

Even windows API calls from programs to ask windows for a list of network connections or locked files becomes a waste of time because the system lies and does not return all the details.

      Windows ten, no thanks mate
