Decision to move the U.S embassy in Israel to Jerusalem means the end of what is left from the two states solution

Some would calm the Palestinians down by saying that former presidents Bush and Clinton made the same promise to move the embassy to Jerusalem but did not. Others say that elected president Trump said that only for the interest of his campaign and nothing else. The developments are showing something else…something that is more like recognizing Jerusalem as the United Capital of Israel and moving the U.S embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to turn it into a real fact that can’t be changed in the future by any other American politician.

The Two states solution that the whole existence of the Palestinian Authority is built in states clearly that Jerusalem is one of the final cases that would be discussed in the final negotiations stage between both sides. None of the former American administrations recognized Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel for many reasons that most important from them was not to upset the Arabs peoples and governments, and to keep a middle role in running the negotiations between both sides. Diplomatically the moving of the embassy to Jerusalem means a full American recognition of Jerusalem as the united capital of Israel and taking a side when speaking about the negotiations process that died because of the building of thousands of settlements units through the West Bank that is supposed to be the Palestinian land of the Palestinian state.

Thomas Friedman who was just appointed as the new American ambassador of the U.S in Israel always stated that Jerusalem is the United Capital of Israel and is considered very close to the rightist movements in Israel and the settlers’ leaders themselves. Reports at Times of Israel talked about sources from inside elected president Trump team stating that preparations for moving the embassy have already started.

The Arab reaction when speaking about governments would be at least to terminate the Arab peace initiative that comes under the Two States solution and the extreme Islamic streams will use this just as another excuse to attract more of the Arab youth to join their lines in “fighting” the American troops who in their eyes represent the policy or are shown as representatives of the American policy towards Palestine.

The Palestinian reaction will be much more complicated and the Palestinian president has many cards to play with: immediate reconciliation with Hamas, termination of the economic treaties with Israel, stopping security cooperation that is assuring Israel’s security until now, raising cases in the International Criminal Court and requesting a full recognition of Palestinian according to 194 that states that Palestinian is a state on the 1967 occupied lands including Jerusalem without any recognition of any other side right in it.

The conclusion is that such a move will mean a real total diplomatic war that many international forces will be involved in and that the U.S will lose again from its positive image that President Obama gave a lot of time to create in the last eight years.
