Sen Cornyn On Russian Subs In US Coastal Waters - Presses Navy For More Information

A top Senate Republican wants to know how a Russian attack submarine was able to conduct a patrol mission miles off the U.S. coastline without the knowledge of the American military or intelligence officials.
In a letter to Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert on Friday, Sen. John Cornyn (Texas) demanded “a detailed explanation of the facts” surrounding the incident in which an Akula-class nuclear attack submarine was able to sail into the Gulf of Mexico undetected.

This is nothing more than a spineless plea by establishment apologists for more military funding. We already spend more on our military than the rest of the world combined, the last thing we need is more military spending, especially when we are being forced to close down multiple school programs across the United States which affects our children. We have already robbed our children of any kind of future, as we squandered away both the economy and the Constitution. Right now, we are in the middle of squandering away their education and freedom. Shoot, I’d even venture to say that our prognosis may look a little better with Russian tanks on Pennsylvania Ave. I certainly don’t see how it could be worse. –Disabled Veteran

Did you guys ever stop to consider that the military industrial complex allowed them to do it so they could use it to their advantage? A perfect excuse to steal more money from the tax payers.
The u.s. is weak,depleated from all these unnessary wars fought lately,the russians are finished standing by and letting the u.s. do whatever it wants,time to pay for all the aggression over the past 20 years.

I was in the Ocean Systems community for over 14yrs and we had our sensors to detect these Soviet submarines. I was familiar with everything on the Akula class fast attack submarine (and every other submarine). We would have nailed this guy when I was in the Navy. The SOSUS system is not there but new technology should have detected this submarine with the exploitable sources that it has to operate. Sonarmen are trained to exploit these sources and there is not much the engineers can do but shock mount equipment and quiet the machines down with new technology. They still have to operate and our sailors are the best there are in finding these guys.
