This is what angers me about people in this country who think we don’t spend enough on the military. I was in the Navy, I was a low paid guy, and I made good money compared to the money I made when I got out after just 4 yrs.

Here, in this example, we have 70 high ranking taxpayer funded military and govt people, all who get nice fat checks, and all their expenses paid through per diem, and their guests staying at a very expensive motel, for what is supposedly work related, but this admiral gets so drunk, he needs to be helped back to his room, and then he gets up to go to the bathroom, and he goes out the wrong door and gets locked out of his room. Excuse after excuse is made for the guy, but the Navy eventually fires him. I’m sure he’ll still get a massive pension, negotiated during his firing.

Here’s the story. Keep in mind, this guy was in charge of global air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense. Previous assignments include director of the U.S. Central Command Deployment and Distribution Operations Center in Kuwait and a White House military aide to former President Ronald Reagan and the first lady.

According to the 20-page Navy investigation, Baucom was at a dinner with about 70 senior military officers and corporate executives and consumed all or part of a gin and tonic, wine and five scotches. The investigation stated that security camera footage showed Baucom falling as he stood up just after midnight, then hitting his head on a bar stool.

Another video camera recorded him stumbling and falling “head first” into a couch or a side table, then falling “to the ground,” the investigation stated. At 1:30 a.m. a bellman took Baucom to his room, calling him an “intoxicated older gentleman” in a statement to the hotel security department, the investigation stated.

Baucom showered, then took prescription medications. He told investigators he woke up later and went through a door, thinking it was to the bathroom. But it led outside, and the door locked behind him.

About 5:45 a.m. he ended up at the front desk

“I’m looking for is something to cover up with,” he states in the investigative report. “So I’m looking for just something, if I can find a spare towel anywhere or something laying around so I can get to the lobby, get a key and get back to my room.”

Baucom testified that an employee pointed him to a bin with clean towels, then he walked back to his room. While naked he was seen by some hotel guests and employees, the report states.

In a June 8 statement, Baucom said this behavior is “definitely out of character for me … I was shocked, concerned and worried.” He said he checked himself into a drug and alcohol treatment program as soon as he returned to his office at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

But the investigation concluded that his actions were “the product of his intoxication” and “constituted conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman.” Baucom’s level of intoxication and his nudity are “of such a nature that they dishonored or disgraced him personally and seriously compromised his standing as an officer,” the report said.

Baucom was reassigned to the staff of U.S. Fleet Forces on Nov. 4 and is now under orders to the Pentagon after the Navy found him guilty of conduct unbecoming an officer and disorderly conduct at a Nov. 20 admiral’s mast.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies were not called to the incident and only learned of it days later.

Baucom became director of the Strategy, Policy, Capabilities and Logistics in October 2013. That command is the single manager for global air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense. Previous assignments include director of the U.S. Central Command Deployment and Distribution Operations Center in Kuwait and a White House military aide to former President Ronald Reagan and the first lady.
