Suzuki Motorcycle India has unveiled a new 150cc motorcycle – the Gixxer – targeted at younger riders. According to Suzuki, the Gixxer had to look futuristic and yet be easy to ride. The Gixxer will continue to sell alongside the GS 150R, Suzuki’s other 150cc motorcycle, but one meant for masses. The Gixxer will however, only go on sale in July. Also Read: Suzuki Gixxer Preview
The motorcycle which will go up against the likes of the Hero Hunk and the Honda CB Trigger is powered by a single cylinder, air cooled engine that uses a SOHC layout for its valve train. It also uses a carburettor and not fuel injection in order to keep the pricing of the motorcycle competitive. The engine also uses Suzuki’s new engine tech called SEP or Suzuki Eco Performance. Like HET used on Hondas, SEP too promises high fuel economy along without considerable drop in power. The Suzuki GS 150R which uses the old engine did not do too well owing to conventional styling and relatively heavier kerb weight compared to more contemporary 150cc motorcycles.
It also ran more conventional cycle parts, but the GS did get a six-speed gearbox which the other 150cc bikes in its class lacked. But, the Gixxer which still uses telescopic forks upfront has now adopted mono shock at the rear. The Gixxer also uses better tyres – 100/80 at the front and 140/60 section at the rear. The rear tyre size given the bike’s power figures seems a little optimistic. But there’s no doubting the fact that it does enhance the bike’s visual appeal. The Gixxer will be sold in five colours and we expect the motorcycle to cost around the Rs 75,000 mark in Delhi.
