Vanda debuts 200mph quad-motor electric hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show

Singapore-based electric mobility company Vanda Electrics has debuted the Bugatti of all electric cars at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The wild-looking quad-motor 1,000hp Vanda Dendrobium, named after a type of orchid, has been designed in close cooperation with Williams Advanced Engineering, a division of the Williams Formula One race team who supplies hi-tech batteries used by Formula E teams.

The lightweight Dendrobium is constructed entirely of carbon fiber and powered by lithium ion batteries along with a control system designed by the British race engineering team. Four electric motors combined with a multi-speed gearbox with differential propels the 3,858 pound electric hypercar to a top speed of 200 miles per hour, and a 0 – 60 time of 2.7 seconds. Battery size and range details have not been released.

The interior is made up of carbon fiber except for the bright red leather seats which are covered in hides from Scotland’s Bridge of Weir Leather Company. That company is known worldwide for using hides from the best heritage breeds. It has adopted the very latest low carbon tanning technology, which makes its products perfectly suited to a zero emission hypercar like the Dendrobium.

The Dendrobium is strictly a concept car at this moment. The Geneva show is being used to gauge how much interest there might be in a production version. Larissa Tan,CEO of Vanda Electrics, told the press in Geneva, “Dendrobium is the culmination of a dream. Our design team has had sketches of an electric hypercar on the drawing board since the mid-90s, but that vision was many years ahead of its time. As electric technology has advanced, we have been able to revisit this vision and now, as we launch our revolutionary global e-mobility strategy, the timing is finally right for us to take the wraps off a halo model. Dendrobium is our interpretation and expression of what pushes the boundaries in the development of an electric performance car.”
