For Cars, Movies and Cool… it’s Fireball Tim!

Yes, what I want now is a Hyper-SUV, capable of well… just about anything. This is the URUS, and it’s made by Lamborghini.

WARNING! Please don’t drool on your screen.

The Lamborghini Urus is an SUV designed by Lamborghini. The car was unveiled on 4 December 2017 and the name comes from the Urus, the ancestor of modern domestic cattle, also known as the aurochs.

The Lamborghini Urus does not use Lamborghini’s hallmark naturally aspirated V10 or V12 engines. Instead, Lamborghini has developed a new 641 hp (478 kW) 4.0 L twin-turbo V8.

Lamborghini claims this engine is solely used by Lamborghini, eschewing the idea that it is simply a retuned version of Audi‘s 4.0L V8 that is used across some of the Audi S and RS models and A8 lineup, and shared with Bentley in the Continental V8 coupe and Flying Spur V8.

The Lamborghini Urus is much lighter than most of its rivals at 2200 kg (4850 lbs), mainly because of the extensive usage of carbon fiber reinforced polymer, although it is based on the same platform as the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg.

There have been rumours of a plug-in hybrid version of the Urus, which is expected to arrive before 2019.

The Urus has a front-engine, all-wheel-drive layout, and a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h), which makes it the world’s fastest production SUV, beating the Bentley Bentayga‘s 187mph (301km/h).

The Urus will accelerate from 0-100 km/h (60 mph) in 3.6 seconds. The car will start at $200,000 US, and will seat four people.

Lamborghini has developed the world’s largest set of carbon ceramic brakes fitted to a production car, with 439 mm (17.3 in) rotors in the front and 371 mm (14.6 in) rotors in the rear.

The all-wheel drive system in the Urus, which under normal driving sends 40 percent of the engine’s torque to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear wheels uses torque vectoring to send as much as 70 percent to the front and 87 percent to the rear when necessary.

The car also features rear-wheel steering and an air suspension system that can provide a maximum of 250 mm (9.8 in) of ground clearance for use in offroading.

The car will be available with an optional offroad package, which includes front and rear bumpers that are better suited to offroading. The Urus, like all of Lamborghini‘s current offerings, will feature a selection of driving modes, which adapt the suspension to improve the car’s performance in various situations.

The Lamborghini Urus will feature Strada (street), Corsa (track), Terra (dirt), Sabbia (sand), and Neve (snow) driving modes, with the latter three possibly only available on the offroad-package equipped version of the Urus.

On December 4, 2017, the car was unveiled at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters, making it the brand’s first SUV since the LM002.

Production will begin in February 2018 and Lamborghini plans to build 1000 units in the first year of production, and 3500 in 2019.

Lamborghini has expanded their factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, to produce the Urus.
